Frank Lampard admits retirement is possible if Chelsea don't offer new contractMay 30, 2014 17:07 By Ben Burrows
The 35-year-old could still remain at Stamford Bridge next season but has no regrets should his illustrious playing career end this summer Frank Lampard admits retirement from the game is a possibility should he leave Chelsea.he 35-year-old has, as yet, not been offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge meaning he is set to play at the World Cup as a free agent. There is still a chance that the Blues make him an offer to stay at the club where he is record goalscorer,
but should his playing days end this summer he admits he will have no regrets.
"I don’t know if I’ll be at Chelsea next season," he told Red magazine. "I’d like to carry on for two or three more years, but it would be good to end on a high. "So,
if that means it all ends tomorrow, I wouldn’t have any regrets. You know your shelf life, so I started to mentally prepare when I hit 30.
"I’ve been doing this for a long time, so there’s a part of me that’s looking forward to the future."
Despite being an experienced campaigner with over 500 Premier League appearances under his belt Lampard still finds it difficult to deal with the odd off day.
And with his days as a professional player now numbered he is intrigued by what the future will hold off the pitch.
"Christine (Bleakley) would tell you that no matter how long in the tooth I am in football years, if I have a bad game, I’m miserable for a couple of days," he added.
"I want to be the best I can, and I’m upset with myself when I’m not. I am intrigued to see who I am when I stop experiencing those extreme highs and lows.
"I feel ready to handle it, because I’ve got other things, like the books."
