Transfer news: Fulham release Norway centre-half Brede Hangeland from his contract early



Fulham have released Norway centre-half Brede Hangeland from his contract 12 months early.

Hangeland, 32, signed a new two-year deal on March 2013 which was to extend his stay at Craven Cottage to 2015.

However he and the Whites, who he joined in January 2008 from FC Copenhagen as Roy Hodgson's first signing,

have decided to part company after relegation from the Premier League.

Hangeland made an instant impact, helping the club achieve top-flight survival by winning four out of the final five matches the same season.

The Norwegian also featured prominently in the club's 2010 UEFA Europa League campaign which ended in the final after Diego Forlan's extra-time winner handed Atletico Madrid victory.

He went on to make 272 appearances for Fulham, scoring 12 goals.

A statement read: "The club would like to thank Brede for his six and a half years of committed service and wishes him the very best in all of his future endeavours."

Hangeland is the latest confirmed departure as manager Felix Magath prepares for life in the Sky Bet Championship.

Midfielders Damien Duff and Steve Sidwell have been released, along with Giorgos Karagounis, Mahamadou Diarra and John Arne Riise.

Brede Hangeland slams Fulham after being informed of release by email



Brede Hangeland has slammed Fulham after the club informed him of his release via email.

The Norway defender had his six-and-a-half-year stay at Craven Cottage ended on Tuesday, despite his contract still having a year left to run.

Hangeland, 32, said he was "disappointed beyond words" by his treatment at the hands of a club he captained for a number of seasons and played for over 200 times.

In a statement released via his agent, Jon Morland, the centre-back said:

"Today I received the sad news that Fulham exercised an option to terminate my contract, effective immediately.

"I received such notification by e-mail with no representative from the club meeting with me at any point to discuss this matter.

After six-and-a-half years of loyalty and hard work, and the last few years as captain, I am disappointed beyond words about this course of action.

"I would like to thank the wonderful Fulham fans for letting me share the best times of my career with them. I have been very proud to wear the white shirt at Craven Cottage.

"Needless to say, I still have a lot to give as a footballer and I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my career."

Sky Sports News understands that Hangeland's preference is to remain in England and play in the Premier League,

after being unable to stop Fulham being relegated to the Championship last season.

Hangeland joined Fulham from FC Copenhagen in 2008 and played 214 times for the club, scoring eight goals.

anyway 所以我自己都係prefer用英文名, 中文個個譯法唔同, 打錯字又有, 有時好confusing
