Mario Pasalic: Chelsea sign Croatia U21 international



Chelsea have signed 19-year-old midfielder Mario Pasalic from Croatian club Hajduk Split for an undisclosed fee.
Pasalic was in Croatia's provisional World Cup squad and has represented his country at under-21 level.
The German-born midfielder scored 11 goals in 36 appearances for Hajduk in what was his first full season at senior level last year.
"This is now a new start in my career," Pasalic told the Chelsea website.
"I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player."

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Mario Pasalic from Hajduk Split.

Pasalic is a 19-year-old attack-minded midfielder,

who has represented Croatia at Under-21 level and was named in his country’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad.

Upon completing his transfer, Pasalic said: ‘I am very happy because I am now a Chelsea player.

I am very impressed by the training ground and I must thank everybody at Hajduk. This is now a new start in my career.

‘I am a central midfielder, my favourite player is Frank Lampard, and so I am very happy to be a Chelsea player.’

The German-born youngster enjoyed a fine first full season in senior football during 2013/14,

scoring 11 times in 36 appearances in all competitions and helping his side to third place in the Croatian league.

He made his first team debut late in the previous season.

He will join Jose Mourinho’s squad for its first pre-season training session this afternoon.

Transfer News: Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic joins Elche on loan



Chelsea teenager Mario Pasalic has joined La Liga side Elche on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old midfielder only joined Chelsea earlier this month from Hajduk Split

but has immediately been sent out on loan, with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho keen for Pasalic to gain first-team experience.

Pasalic, who scored 11 goals in 32 appearances for Split last season, was named in Croatia’s provisional 30-man World Cup squad but did not make it to Brazil.

After Elche’s sporting director flew to London for talks, the club that narrowly avoided relegation

from La Liga last season announced that Pasalic had passed his medical and begun training with his new team-mates.

Speaking at his official presentation, Pasalic said: "I wanted to play in La Liga and my coach (Jose) Mourinho thought the best thing for me was to come to Spain to play against big teams.

"I'm grateful for this opportunity with Elche. I've come here because I believe I can be an important player and help the club have a good season."
