Transfer news: Ronald Koeman confirms deal for Saphir Taider

Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Algerian midfielder Saphir Taider is joining the club in the deal that will take Pablo Daniel Osvaldo to Inter Milan.

But reports suggest Taider may not be the only Inter playing arriving at St Mary's with Ezequiel Schelotto and Hugo Campagnaro strongly linked with Southampton.

Koeman, did though, confirm Taider was arriving.

"We are looking for the best for Osvaldo and the best for the club," Koeman said.

"Taider brings quality and we need that. We need competition in the squad as well and that will be good."

Koeman is looking to bolster his squad after seeing Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers all leave Southampton this summer.

So far the Dutchman has brought in Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic and Ryan Bertrand.

Dani Osvaldo has arrived in Milan this afternoon, and will complete his move to Inter on Tuesday.

Several outlets, including Sport Mediaset, claim that the striker landed at Malpensa airport at 13.30 CET today from Buenos Aires.

The Italy international will rest in the city today, before having a medical with the San Siro outfit tomorrow morning.

Assuming all is well, Osvaldo will then put pen-to-paper on an initial one-year loan deal with the Nerazzurri.

Walter Mazzarri’s men have the right to by the goalscorer from Southampton, with a fee thought to have been agreed at ?7m.

Tomorrow Taider is expected to sign his contract with Southampton after taking his medical in the morning.

It is reported that Dani Osvaldo has this afternoon signed a contract with Inter, with official confirmation of his move imminent.

The forward arrives on an initial one-year loan deal from parent club Southampton,

with the Nerazzurri reportedly having the option to sign him permanently for ?7m next summer.

According to transfer market specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, Osvaldo will earn around ?2m this season in addition to goal, appearance and team-related bonuses.

22-year-old Taider joins on a season-long loan from the Italian outfit, with Dani Osvaldo moving in the opposite direction on the same basis.

Both transfers have independent options should the respective loaning clubs wish to make either move permanent next summer.

French-born Taider played in two of Algeria’s games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, including their narrow second-round defeat to eventual champions Germany.

Prior to joining Inter last summer, the playmaker had a two-year spell with Bologna,

where he played alongside future Saints teammate Gaston Ramirez. He started his professional career with French side Grenoble.

First Team Manager Ronald Koeman said:

“It’s part of our philosophy for the club to bring in talented young players who like to learn and develop themselves, and that’s true of Saphir.

“First of all, he is a talented football player. He’s 22 and has already played for Algeria at the World Cup.

“I’ve spoken to him about the positions he can play in, and it was a good meeting because he showed me real ambition.

“He can play as a controlled midfielder, but he can also move up around the box and up front,

which is a good thing for a coach or manager because it brings more possibilities to the players in the team. He brings competition to the squad.

“He can still learn some things, so we will train him and develop him this season. Over the course of the year, we will then make a decision about the future of the player.

“He’s ten days into his pre-season, so he needs to be in better physical shape but we’ll give him training and he will be ready for the kick-off.

“He will start training tomorrow morning and, depending on how he does over the next few days, we will see whether he will take part in the friendly on Saturday. I will make that decision on Friday.”
