Freddie Ljungberg plans to return in Indian Super League Former Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg has announced he is coming out of retirement to play in the new Indian Super League. The ISL, scheduled to start on September 19,
follows a similar format to the MLS in America and will feature a number of veterans who previously played in the Premier League.
Ljungberg, who won two titles during his time at Arsenal, announced the news via his Twitter account,
saying:
"I am joining Indian Super League in September for three months to help promote football in India. "Even though I am retired, the opportunity to play in India is really exciting.
I am keen to share my knowledge and experience of the Premier League." The 37-year-old had quit the game in 2012, but will now join former Liverpool duo David James and Luis Garcia, who have agreed to play in the league.
Garcia has already been unveiled as a marquee signing for Atletico de Kolkata, a team with close ties to La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
