Jonathan De Guzman signs for Napoli from Villarreal



Dutch midfielder and former Swansea loanee Jonathan De Guzman has joined Serie A side Napoli from Villarreal.
Napoli confirmed the signing  - for an undisclosed fee - after the 26-year-old completed a medical.
"I am happy to have come to Napoli. I can't wait to start," said De Guzman, who spent the last two years in Wales.
Napoli also confirmed the departure of 27-year-old Argentine midfielder Federico Fernandez to Swansea for a fee understood to be £8m.
De Guzman scored nine goals in 71 Premier League appearances for Swansea,
as well as three goals in 17 games in Europe - including one against Napoli in a 3-1 Europa League defeat.
He was part of the Netherlands squad at the World Cup in Brazil.

Transfer News: Swansea unlikely to re-sign Jonathan de Guzman from Villarreal



Swansea City manager Garry Monk is not expecting Villarreal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman to return to the Liberty Stadium.

De Guzman has scored 15 goals in 93 appearances for Swansea after spending the past two seasons on loan and has been linked with a £5million permanent move.

However, Queens Park Rangers are reportedly willing to offer £7million for de Guzman, who made three appearances for the Netherlands at the World Cup.

The 26-year-old has yet to make a decision on his future and Monk has acknowledged that time is running out for de Guzman to agree a return to Swansea.

"We talked to him earlier in the summer, he wanted to keep his options open and I guess his options still are," said Monk.

"I do not anticipate him coming back at this moment in time.

"With the high turnover of players we have had, and trying to get as much information across to them as possible, we have not got time to wait around.

"I am not closing the door on it, if it happens it happens, but he and his agent were the ones who decided to keep his options open and we can't wait about."

Swansea are also in the market for a new defender after Chico Flores’ departure and Napoli centre-half Federico Fernandez is reported to be a target.

Monk added: "We are looking at a number of options in that position. His name is one that has cropped up."

Queens Park Rangers are closing in the signing of former Swansea midfielder Jonathan De Guzman, Sky Sports understands.

Holland international De Guzman is back at Villarreal after a successful two-year spell on loan at Swansea.

Swansea boss Garry Monk recently revealed he is not expecting de Guzman to return to the Liberty Stadium

and Queens Park Rangers are now thought to be leading the chase for his signature.

Loftus Road manager Harry Redknapp is looking to bolster his midfield options and he is thought to be a big admirer of De Guzman.

The 26-year-old is thought to be keen on returning to England and QPR are hoping to lure the Dutchman to Loftus Road.

De Guzman’s move to Napoli in final stages despite QPR’s attempt



Napoli is set to acquire de Guzamn. The partenopei expect the deal to be completed by tomorrow,
the midfielder born in 1987 will be purchased for around 6/6.5 million euro from Villareal.
Tomorrow the official documents will be exchanged, once the signatures are done de Guzman will travel to Napoli for the medical.
The Dutch midfielder turned down the chance to join QPR, the club managed by Redknapp offered 8 million to Villareal but de Guzman only wanted to play for Napoli.
Tomorrow is the day of the documents, Benitez is waiting for Jonathan de Guzman.
