Two more years for influential captain.Captain John O’Shea has penned a new two-year extension at the Stadium of Light.O’Shea, 33, is now contracted to the club until 2017 and has made more than 120 appearances in red and white since joining the club from Manchester United in 2011.
The defender won his 100th cap for the Republic of Ireland earlier this week, marking the occasion by scoring against world champions Germany. He made his international debut in 2001.
Head coach Gus Poyet told safc.com: “I am delighted that John has agreed to stay with us for at least another two years.
“He is our captain, one of our leaders and I am sure he will continue to help us get better and stronger as a team. I really look forward to continuing to work with John.”
O’Shea has collected 15 major club honours during his career, including five Barclays Premier League titles, an FA Cup winners’ medal and a UEFA Champions League success.
