Sami Hyypia: Brighton manager resigns after one win in 18 games Sami Hyypia has resigned from his role as manager of Championship strugglers Brighton & Hove Albion after just six months in charge of the Sussex club. The Seagulls, who drew 1-1 at Wolves on Saturday, are 22nd in the table after a run of one win in 18 league games. Former Liverpool and Finland defender Hyypia, 41, took charge at the Amex Stadium in June on a three-year deal.
However, he only won six of his 26 games in charge, with three of those victories coming in the League Cup.
"Sami offered his resignation, and we reluctantly accepted earlier today," confirmed chairman Tony Bloom.
Assistant boss Nathan Jones is expected to be named as caretaker manager of the side.
"Sami has worked extremely hard since joining the club last summer," added Bloom.
"Despite some good performances, including most recently at Wolves, results haven't gone as well as we all had hoped and expected.
"Sami is an incredibly honourable man. He remains a hugely respected and very popular figure at our club. He has decided to step down for the benefit of the team and the club.
We are all very disappointed, but we respect Sami's decision and we all wish him well for the future."
More to follow.
