Jake Livermore is facing a lengthy ban after testing positive for cocaine.

Hull City midfielder Livermore failed a random drug test following Hull's 2-0 win at Crystal Palace last month.

Livermore - the £8million signing who has started all but one of Hull's league games this season - will not feature for the Tigers during their two remaining matches at former club Tottenham Hotspur and at home to Manchester United.

Livermore could now face up to six months suspended from football.

A previous statement released by the FA, Premier League and Football League read: 'Any player who tests positive for a social drug out of competition is charged and subject to a sanction which ordinarily includes a suspension from all football activity for a period of up to six months for a first time offence. They are also subject to target testing for a period of two years.'

Steve Bruce's side are currently third from bottom and need at least two points to stand any chance of survival.

Hull will release a statement on Friday afternoon.

Jake Livermore: Hull midfielder suspended by club

Hull City midfielder Jake Livermore has been suspended by the club - but no official reason has been given.
Midfielder Livermore, 25, joined Hull for £8m last June and has made 38 appearances for the club this season.
He spent the 2013-14 season on loan at the KC Stadium and previously played for Tottenham. He has had loan spells at MK Dons, Derby, Peterborough, Ipswich and Leeds.
Livermore has one England cap from a friendly against Italy in August 2012.
When he joined Hull, Livermore signed a three-year contract, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months.
Steve Bruce's side are 18th in the Premier League, the last relegation place - two points behind Newcastle and Sunderland and three points adrift of 15th-placed Leicester.
They travel to Tottenham on Saturday (15:00 BST) before ending the season with a home game against Manchester United on Sunday, 24 May.

Jake Livermore: Hull City midfielder to avoid drug ban

Hull City midfielder Jake Livermore will not be banned after testing positive for cocaine.
The 25-year-old was suspended by the Football Association and his club in May after failing a drug test, pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.
The England international, who faced a possible two-year ban, tested positive after the death of his newborn child.
"There's no question it was a mitigating factor," said Hull manager Steve Bruce to the BBC last month.
"Unfortunately he lost his baby just after the FA Cup final last year.
"Jake has kept all of the problems that he had to himself. All footballers think they are macho-men but they have problems like everybody else."
A disciplinary hearing took place last week at which it was decided Livermore would not be suspended.
Livermore joined Hull from Spurs for £8m in August 2014 after a season-long loan, making 35 league appearances last season as the Tigers were relegated to the Championship.
