Paderborn and Freiburg relegated; Stuttgart and Hannover survive in Bundesliga Paderborn and Freiburg were relegated from the Bundesliga on the final day of the regular German season with Stuttgart and Hannover clinching safety and Hamburg living to fight another day. Stuttgart came from behind to beat Paderborn 2-1 and secure their place in the top flight next term, while condemning their opponents to relegation. Marc Vucinovic gave Paderborn the lead in the fourth minute with a goal which temporarily took his side above their guests and to safety.
However, Stuttgart's overall superiority finally shone through with Daniel Didavi levelling and Daniel Ginczek netting a valuable winner in the 72nd minute.
Hannover also earned their place in the Bundesliga next season and sent Freiburg into the second division with a 2-1 win at the Niedersachsenstadion. Goals from Hiroshi Kiyotak and Pavel Krmas secured Hannover’s top-flight status, while a late Nils Petersen consolation was not enough to prevent Christian Streich's men from being relegated.
Hamburg earned a second chance at securing their Bundesliga status with a 2-0 win over Schalke lifting them into a relegation play-off for the second season running. Ivica Olic and Slobodan Rajkovic were on target and they will now play the side who finish third in the second division in a play-off.
Those results ensured Hertha Berlin stayed up, despite a 2-1 defeat away at Hoffenheim, who finish the season in eighth place.
Jurgen Klopp bade an emotional but successful farewell to the Borussia Dortmund fans in his last Bundesliga match in charge of the club with a 3-2 win over Werder Bremen earning them a place in the Europa League next season. The victory sees them finish seventh and at least in the qualifying round for the Europa League next season – although a win in the German Cup next weekend would turn that into an automatic group-stage berth.
Bayern Munich celebrated their third straight Bundesliga title after beating Mainz 2-0 at the Allianz Arena.
A Robert Lewandowski penalty and Bastian Schweinsteiger goal gave Pep Guardiola's victory in front of 75,000 fans.
Wolfsburg finished as runners-up to Bayern as they wrapped up their Bundesliga campaign with a 2-2 draw at Cologne.
Elsewhere,
Augsburg booked their place in the Europa League next season by beating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1. Eintracht Frankfurt ended the season with a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in a game which was the prelude to the main event, as Alexander Meier lifted the top-scorer's award after the final whistle.
