Tottenham open talks with Monaco to sign Anthony MartialTottenham have opened talks with Monaco to sign their young striker Anthony Martial, Sky sources understand.Sky Sports reported on Monday that Spurs had a strong interest in the 19-year-old France U21 international and the club are hopeful they can agree a deal to bring him to White Hart Lane.Martial is highly regarded both at his current club, where he made 44 appearances last season and scored 10 goals, and among the French international set-up, where he has played games and scored goals at every level from U16 to U21.
He fits Tottenham's remit of young, hungry players who are keen to develop under Mauricio Pochettino and Martial especially impressed during Monaco's Champions League campaign last term, providing an assist when they beat Spurs' arch rivals Arsenal at the Emirates 3-1 in February.
Martial joined Monaco on a three-year deal from Lyon in 2013 for a fee of ?5m and he has made 55 appearances overall for the club, who finished third in the French top flight.
Tottenham's list of targets is lengthy and there are a number of other strikers that interest them, such as Stuttgart youngster Timo Werner and Aston Villa's Christian Benteke.
Spurs were also interested in the out-of-contract Burnley forward Danny Ings, but he chose to sign for Liverpool on a Bosman free transfer this week.
Spurs had launched a £12m bid for the England U21 star in the hope it could persuade him to reconsider his strong desire to move to Anfield but he is set to sign for Brendan Rodgers, subject to a medical.
