Aston Villa have had a bid of £12m accepted by Lorient for striker Jordan Ayew, according to Sky sources.

The Ghana international is expected to arrive in Birmingham in the next 24 hours for further talks and a medical.

The former Marseille striker will be a direct replacement for Christian Benteke who moved to Liverpool for £32.5m earlier this week.

The 23-year-old’s brother Andre joined Swansea on a free transfer this summer and his brother could now be set to join him in the Premier League.

Aston Villa have not been available for comment this morning.

AYEW ARRIVES FOR VILLA MEDICAL

Lorient striker Jordan Ayew has arrived in the UK and will have a medical on Saturday ahead of his proposed move to Aston Villa.

Sky sources revealed today that Villa have had a bid of £12million accepted by Ligue 1 club for the Ghana striker.

“I’m delighted to have arrived in the UK and to have the opportunity to join a club the size of Aston Villa,” Ayew told Sky Sports News HQ.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the manager and I am very excited about the prospect of playing in the best league in the world.

“I’m sure with the new players that Aston Villa are bringing in that we can all work together to make it a great season for a great football club.”

Villa are yet to make an official comment regarding Ayew’s reported move.

AYEW SLAMS LORIENT

Jordan Ayew has accused Lorient of pricing him out of a move to Aston Villa, reports The Guardian.

The Ghana international is on the verge of completing his move to the Premier League club, with Sky sources confirming the striker had arrived in the UK to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a proposed £12million transfer.

The 23-year-old has now laid into the Ligue 1 side, brandishing their conduct surrounding his transfer as ‘incomprehensible’.

“They said I could go for ?10m or ?12m, but now they want £10m with £2m in add-ons, which makes it about ?17m. It’s nonsense!” he told L’Equipe.

“It’s finished for me. They bought me for ?5m and they are blocking me now. I am in Birmingham, I am off to Aston Villa, and nothing will change my mind.


My whole family wants to go to England, it’s the right time.

“I am not going to training [with Lorient] again, that’s over for me. In my head, in any case, I have left.”

VILLA TO SIGN CRESPO

Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Cordoba for the transfer of right-back Jose Angel Crespo, according to the Segunda Division side.

Crespo, 28, played 27 times for relegated Cordoba last year, and represented Spain at Under-21 level four times.

Jordan Ayew has joined Aston Villa from Lorient for £9m on a 5-year deal.
