Watford in talks with former West Ham forward Alessandro Diamanti

Watford are in talks to sign forward Alessandro Diamanti from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

New Hornets boss Quique Flores has been busy adding to his squad ahead of their first season back in the Premier League since 2006 and 10 new recruits have already arrived at Vicarage Road.

Diamanti, 32, spent one season with West Ham United during the 2009/10 campaign and scored eight times to help preserve the club’s place in the Premier League.

He also scored the winning penalty for Italy in their quarter-final shoot-out victory over England at Euro 2012.

Diamanti, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Fiorentina, has two years left on his contract with Guangzhou.

Meanwhile, Sky sources understand Watford are also poised to sign goalkeeper Rafael Romo from Udinese on a short-term deal.

The Venezuela international, 25, will provide cover for current No 1 Heurelho Gomes

HORNETS CLOSE IN ON DIAMANTI

A quick update now on Watford's pursuit of Alessandro Diamanti, with a deal for the veteran Italian almost done.

The player has passed a medical and agreed personal terms and will join initially on loan from Chinese club Gunagzhou Evergrande - with a an option to make it permanent.

The former West Ham player will not be in the squad for this weekend and we are now awaiting official confirmation from the Hornets.

DIAMANTI SET FOR WATFORD

Former West Ham striker Alessandro Diamanti has passed his medical and agreed personal terms with Watford ahead of his proposed loan from Guangzhou Evergrande.

The deal is expected to be formally announced in the next 24 hours.

WATFORD CLOSE TO DIAMANTI DEAL

It looks as though former West Ham player Alessandro Diamanti is set to return to the Premier League with Watford.

The Italy international, who moved to current Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande in in 2014, has been training with the Hornets this week.

"The clubs are talking to arrange the last details and I expect him to come to us," manager Quique Sanchez Flores said today. "It will be difficult for Saturday but the deal is close."
