Vargas has scored 22 goals in 48 international appearances for Chile and was one of the stars of his nation’s triumphant Copa America campaign on home soil over the summer, finishing as top scorer with four goals to help them to the title. His displays also earned him a place in the tournament’s Best XI.
“I’m not only looking forward to the fans, the stadiums and the atmosphere in Germany, but also to the opportunity to show my aggressive attacking game in one of the world’s best leagues,”
Vargas told the Hoffenheim website after signing. “I’m sure I’ll continue to develop further in this team, whose style of play is one I’m familiar with from the Chile national side. It suits me."
'Versatile, robust and good technique'
Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen was equally delighted with his latest capture: “Eduardo’s outstanding performances at the Copa America obviously aroused a lot of interest from clubs across Europe, which is why we’re very happy he’s chosen to come here. He can play in the centre and also just off a main striker and is versatile, robust and has good technique.”
Hoffenheim announced the transfer on Twitter, saying: "It's official. Eduardo Vargas has joined TSG. Welcome!"
