Adem Ljajic in talks with Aston Villa over move from Roma

Aston Villa have opened negotiations with Roma over the signing of attacking midfielder Adem Ljajic, according to Sky sources.

Sky Italia believe Roma would be willing to let the Serbia international leave and that a deal could be finalised soon. Roma director of football Walter Sabatini is reportedly in England for negotiations.

Ljajic was close to joining Manchester United in 2009 when he was at Partizan Belgrade but United pulled out of the move and the 23-year-old left for Fiorentina a year later.

He then signed for Roma in 2013 for £8m but it now looks like he will be on the move again, and Villa are front-runners in the race to seal his signature.

The 23-year-old appeared in 32 Serie A games for Roma last season, starting 23 and scoring eight goals.

If Tim Sherwood can land Ljajic, he would become the club's 11th signing of a busy summer in the transfer market at Villa Park.

VILLA IN TALKS FOR LJAJIC

According to Sky Italia, Roma are undecided about whether they'll let attacking midfielder Adem Ljajic join Aston Villa.

The Serie A club are reportedly trying to work out the future of two of their other players before making a decision on the Serbian international.

We understand Villa have opened negotiations with Roma and are keen to get this one over the line.

On 2 January 2009, Manchester United announced the signings of both Ljajić and his Partizan team-mate, Zoran Tošić.
Tošić would join the club immediately, while Ljajić would remain at Partizan for the remainder of 2009, joining United in January 2010.
Despite being unable to officially join the club until January 2010, Ljajić made regular trips to Manchester throughout 2009 to train with the United first team, and so that the club's coaches could monitor his progress.
However, United decided not to take up their option to sign Ljajić due to issues surrounding the club's application for a work permit.
Following the collapse of the transfer, Partizan manager Goran Stevanović claimed that the situation had put Ljajić into "psychological shock", but that the player was "handling the situation well".Partizan's Director of Football Ivan Tomić stated "I think that they will regret this decision in future."
