Didier Drogba could be heading back to Chelsea to take up a coaching role, after his current club Montreal impact revealed negotiations between the two clubs have begun. The Ivory Coast striker is currently playing in the MLS with Montreal who, in a series of tweets, revealed that Chelsea are keen to bring Drogba to west London for a third time in a coaching capacity.
However, the Canadian team are hoping Drogba remains with them until the end of his MLS contract.
"We are currently in contact with Didier Drogba and Chelsea FC. We are doing everything we can to have him back with the Impact in 2016," Montreal announced on social media. "We understand his attachment to his former club and his desire to help them. We are willing to accommodate him. "But our objective is to have him back for another season, as agreed in his contract. This situation is out of our control."
The 37-year-old scored 12 goals in 12 regular-season games after joining the Impact in July.
Drogba was photographed sitting next to Guus Hiddink, who was appointed Chelsea's interim manager last week, during last Saturday's Premier League game against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
