Jonathan de Guzman’s agent has refused to rule out a Swansea City swoop for the former loan star as they eye up a replacement for Jonjo Shelvey. De Guzman impressed during two successive season-long loan spells with the Swans before joining Serie A giants Napoli from parent club Villarreal. But having been frozen out of the Stadio San Paolo side’s plans this season, it has opened the door for a shock return move – with the Dutch playmaker’s agent admitting there is interest from the Premier League. De Guzman, who featured for the Netherlands side who reached the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup, could be available on the cheap with suggestions Napoli would be willing to release him from his contract.
And Fabio Parisi has claimed he will be with another club by the time he recovers from a minor groin operation.
“He’ll resume training within 10 days, though probably not with Napoli,” Fabio Parisi told Italian reporters.
“I’m working with (Napoli sporting director Cristiano) Giuntoli. There are several solutions, but he’s likely to resume training with another team. “I think there will be several options abroad, in the Premier League.” Asked directly about Swansea, Parisi said: “We’re working on several fronts, he has many admirers, and with a bit of calm we’ll decide everything.”
De Guzman had been lined up for a permanent switch to the Liberty in 2014 only for the club to pull out of a deal when he delayed negotiations over a £7m move.
While there were questions of the former Feyenoord man’s work-rate during his time in South Wales, the set-piece specialist would provide creativity and plug a gap left by Jonjo Shelvey’s £12m move to Newcastle.
