Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic to sign new one-year deal worth £120,000-a-week- Chelsea and Branislav Ivanovic have agreed terms for a new one-year deal
- New contract at Stamford Bridge includes a clause for an additional year
- AC Milan, Inter and Zenit St Petersburg have shown interest in the defender
- Rivals Manchester City have also enquired about the Serbian right back
Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic is set to sign a new one-year deal on Thursday at around 1pm and put an end to speculation about his immediate future. The deal, believed to match his current wage of £120,000-a-week, is in line with the Blues' policy to offer players aged over 30 no more than single year extensions. Serbia international Ivanovic, who is off contract in the summer, has been below his best this season along with the majority of the Chelsea squad in their failed Premier League defence.
However, he remains an asset the club don’t want to lose with the Blues fending off interest from the Serie A (Inter Milan and AC Milan) and Zenit St Petersburg in Russia.
Enquiries by English rivals Manchester City appear to have escalated discussions between the player and the club.
The right back, who turns 32 on February 22, has appeared 24 times in all competitions this season.
With his family settled in London he has no desire to leave Stamford Bridge, but was believed to have been tempted by potentially longer deals elsewhere.
A recent discussion with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich reassured Ivanovic of the high regard with which he's held at the club.
