Goal-line technology will be used at Euro 2016 and in the Champions League from next season, UEFA has confirmed. The introduction of the technology, already established in the Premier League and elsewhere, was approved at a meeting of the organisation's executive committee in Nyon. UEFA president Michel Platini, who is currently suspended from football pending an appeal into his eight-year FIFA ban, was a long-term opponent of the system.
But in 2014 a spokesman said Platini had changed his mind after witnessing its success at the World Cup finals in Brazil.
Gianni Infantino, the acting head of the European football governing body, said: "We looked at it seriously... and finally we decided to start with Euro 2016 and then move on to the Champions League.
"Now we are going to look at how to implement it."
