Manchester City reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in their history after a goalless second leg gave them a 3-1 aggregate win against Dynamo Kiev.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg, things did not go entirely to plan for Manuel Pellegrini and his side, who lost both Vincent Kompany, who suffered a fourth calf injury of the season, and his central defensive partner Nicolas Otamendi in the first half.



In what was a drab affair, chances were few and far between until Jesus Navas struck the foot of the post for hosts just after the hour mark.

Joe Hart was called into action late on to deny Vitali Buyalsky and Olexsandr Yakovenko, but in truth Pellegrini's men were rarely troubled as they booked their place in Friday's quarter-final draw.

However, the loss of both Kompany and Otamendi will be a huge worry for Pellegrini with a tricky run-in ahead, starting with Sunday's Manchester derby, live on Sky Sports.

Pellegrini was able to call on the services of Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta as he made two changes from the 0-0 draw at Norwich at the weekend.



But the hosts could not have got off to a worst start as Kompany pulled up with what appeared to be another calf injury after slipping attempting to clear the ball.

The City captain went to ground and signalled straight away, before trudging off the field to be replaced by Eliaquim Mangala.

There were further problems for Pellegrini in the 16th minute when Nicolas Otamendi went down injured after a heavy collision with Buyalsky.



The Argentina international, who booked for re-entering the field without the referee's permission, tried to run off the injury but was eventually replaced Martin Demichelis midway through the first half to compound City's defensive problems.

Clear-cut opportunities were hard to come by in what was a subdued atmosphere at the Etihad, but City were doing just enough, as Hart comfortably saved Lukasz Teodorczyk weak shot.

At the other end, City's best chance came when Navas burst through the Kiev defence, but the Spaniard then overhit his pass for Zabaleta, leaving the crowd frustrated once again.

Despite the aggregate score, the visitors were not putting up much of a fight and were hardly threatening City's makeshift defence.

City were better after the break and Toure was at the heart of most of it. The midfielder curled a free-kick over the crossbar, before setting up Aguero, who dragged his shot wide of the far post.

Minutes later, Toure again attempted to drag his side towards victory, picking out Navas, who shot across goal and hit the foot of the post.

Navas returned the favour in the 73rd minute, pulling the ball back for Toure but City's stand-in captain could only hit his shot straight at goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskiy.

Kiev rallied late on as Hart saved efforts from Hart saved from Andriy Yarmolenko, Yakovenko and Buyalsky, but it was job done for City, albeit at a cost.

曼城首回合輕取3:1，但近況一般，此役正選派出阿古路、耶耶托尼、大衛施華和捷西斯拿華斯等主力，絕不掉以輕心。

上半場，曼城損兵折將，隊長高柏尼開賽不到5分鐘，因傷主動要求離場，被貴價中堅文加拉入替。其後，輪到奧達文迪碰撞後受傷，被阿根廷同胞迪米捷利斯入替，誰料到比賽僅過20分鐘，柏歷堅尼已把兩個換人名額用在兩名中堅之上。頭45分鐘，基輔戴拿模有心無力，主隊亦不心急，甚至未能在禁區內製造射門，0:0進入更衣室。

下半場，曼城藉客軍壓前而擁有更大反擊空間，戰至61分鐘，捷西斯拿華斯禁區內勁射中柱彈出，未能打破仁僵局。最終雙方忘帶射門鞋，互交白卷，全場只有1次射門中框的曼城，憑首回合領先優勢，總比數以3:1殺入8強。

同日馬德里體育會在主場亦與燕豪芬悶和0:0，兩回合計以相同比數言和，加時亦沒紀錄。互射12碼，雙方頭7輪皆中，為燕豪芬主射第8個的盧斯安奴拿辛格射失，而馬體會的桑法蘭托里斯射入，最終馬體會贏8:7晉級。

8年傷小腿14次 高柏尼至少唞1個月

【now.com體育】曼城晉級歐聯8強的代價是兩名守將受傷，其中高柏尼情況較令人擔憂，主帥柏歷堅尼相信該隊長至少休戰1個月。

曼城有兩名中堅高柏尼（Vincent Kompany）和奧達文迪齊齊在比賽中傷出，領隊柏歷堅尼賽後說：「高柏尼的小腿肌肉不幸地又再傷，那是舊患。我們要待明日或後天才可知道有多嚴重，一般而言，肌肉傷至少休息1個月。」據法新社所指，那是高柏尼自2008年以來第14次傷小腿。

換言之，高柏尼肯定無緣在下周日對曼聯的打比戰上陣，而下月初的歐聯8強首回合亦勢難披甲。至於奧達文迪，按柏歷堅尼的口吻料可在短期內痊癒。

畢竟是球隊首次入賽事8強，柏帥也表示欣喜：「這是球會很重大的成就，之前一直做不到，那是非常不幸。在16強兩次遇上巴塞隆拿是不正常，這是一支正成長及持續發展的球會。」

Juanfran's penalty gave Atletico Madrid a dramatic shoot-out victory over PSV after the sides drew 0-0 in their second leg of their round of 16 Champions League tie.

Following a goalless first leg in Holland last month, the initial 90 minutes at the Vicente Calderon also passed without either keeper being beaten.

Although the hosts dominated for much of the match, the closest they came was when Fernando Torres' effort was touched on to the post and ultimately spot-kicks were required.

PSV went first and scored each of their first seven efforts but Luciano Narsingh missed their eighth and that allowed Juanfran to send his team through with an 8-7 success.

PSV manager Philip Cocu had unashamedly said before kick-off he would happily progress via penalties and although his team started brightly, they were soon on the back foot and hanging on.



Antoine Greizmann and Yannick Carrasco both had decent chances before the former drew a tremendous reaction save from visiting goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet.

PSV's forays upfield were few and far between in the first half but Luuk de Jong was almost in the perfect place to poke in after Jan Oblak only got a hand to Chelsea loanee Marco van Ginkel's cross.

Normal service soon resumed and although Zoet produced another strong stop from Greizmann, the striker had strayed into an offside position and his header would not have counted.

The impressive Saul Niguez and Carrasco had chances stopped before the break while Jose Giminez headed wide after it.

Almost out of nothing, PSV hit the woodwork as Jurgen Locadia shot goalwards and he was only denied by a thrusting arm from Oblak.

In response, Atletico increased the pressure further but despite a glut of openings, Filipe Luis, substitute Torres and Koke all failed to score.

That meant extra-time beckoned and although the Spaniards continued to dictate, they lacked a cutting edge and tiring PSV did just enough to force penalties.

The first 14 kicks - a variety of confidently-taken and fortuitous attempts from 12 yards - were all converted.

Narsingh, however, was too casual and leaned back enough to hit the face of the bar just moments after he had surprisingly come on for the Eredivisie side's leading scorer De Jong.



That left Juanfran with the opportunity to secure Atletico's first knockout win over a Dutch side and he emphatically found the net to send Diego Simeone's team into Friday's last-eight draw.
