Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to miss Euro 2016 after dislocating his kneecap in training. Dortmund confirmed the news on their Twitter account as they wished their 25-year-old a speedy recovery.
Manchester City sources confirmed to Sky Sports News HQ in March that a meeting was held in Amsterdam between the player's uncle and agent, Ilhan Gundogan, and City Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain.
During that meeting, it is understood personal terms were discussed, and contract terms have since been agreed which would see the player earn £4.8m (?6m) after tax per season, provided the two clubs can agree a transfer fee.
Gundogan was viewed as a perfect candidate to slot into City's midfield under new manager Pep Guardiola.
This setback is the latest in a long list of injuries for Gundogan, who missed almost the entire 2013/14 with a back injury that required spinal surgery.
Dortmund are five points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich with two matches remaining.
