Sevilla will open discussions with former Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli after Unai Emery expressed his desire to leave, a club statement has confirmed.Emery has led Sevilla to three successive Europa League triumphs - most recently beating Liverpool in the 2016 final - but has been heavily linked with the Paris Saint-Germain job in recent weeks.
With the Spaniard seemingly heading to France, Sevilla released a statement on Sunday to confirm they are looking elsewhere, with Sampaoli their preferred candidate.
The 56-year-old resigned as manager of the Chile national team in January after leading them to the Copa America crown in 2015, and has been out of work since.A statement on Sevilla's website reads: 'Sevilla FC have received official notice from Unai Emery's lawyers that his intention is to proceed the unilateral termination of his contract with Sevilla FC.
'This is due to his desire to no longer work as the first-team coach for the 2016-17 season.
'Once confirmed by the Basque coach his irrevocable decision to terminate his contract with Sevilla FC, the club made contact to replace the loss of the Hondarribian.
'In this regard it is expected Jorge Sampaoli, the former Chile coach, will arrive in Seville tomorrow [Monday] for talks with the club.'Laurent Blanc is still in charge at PSG, but there is heavy speculation that he is set to leave his post this summer, paving the way for Emery to take over.
Sampaoli would be a popular replacement at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, with the Argentina coach highly-rated around the world, despite never having coached outside of South America.
He enjoyed a successful spell at club level in Chile with Santiago, lifting the Copa Sudamericana and three national championships in a remarkable three-year tenure.
