Swansea have enquired about a loan or permanent deal for Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic, according to Sky sources.

The move, which is understood to be a loan or permanent, could give the 23-year-old Serb a chance to play Premier League football again.

Swansea and Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have opened talks over a transfer for the player who has not played a competitive game for Liverpool since May 2015.

Markovic has spent time on loan at Fenerbahce, Hull and Sporting Lisbon since being signed by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014.

Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal has said he would fight to the "last minute" to bring players in during this window.

Liverpool remain locked in talks with Swansea City and Wolfsburg as they look to off-load Lazar Markovic before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

The Premier League strugglers and the mid-table Bundesliga outfit have jumped to the front of the queue for the Serbia international.

Swansea favour a loan deal until the end of the season, while Wolfsburg have expressed an interest in a permanent move for Markovic. The German side have already got Liverpool striker Divock Origi on a season-long loan.

Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing with Markovic, who has entered the final 18 months of his contract, keen to take on a new challenge after accepting he has no future under Jurgen Klopp.

Markovic cost £20million from Benfica in July 2014 but has never looked like justifying that hefty price tag.

He scored three goals in 34 appearances in the 2014-15 season but hasn’t played for Liverpool since the win over QPR in May 2015.

Markovic had loan spells at Fenerbahce and Sporting Lisbon before joining Hull City for the second half of last season.

His hopes of securing a permanent move to the KC Stadium were dashed when Hull were relegated from the Premier League. There was interest from the likes of Watford, Fiorentina and Zenit St Petersburg last summer but no club was willing to either meet the £16m asking price or shell out on a loan fee and pay all his wages.

He was an unused sub for the League Cup tie at Leicester City in September and hasn’t made a matchday squad since.

Lazar Markovic is a man in demand on deadline day, although the likelihood of Liverpool’s forgotten winger staying in the Premier League with Swansea City seems to be fading.
Several European clubs remain keen on the Serbian, who has received offers from Lokomotiv Moscow and Wolfsburg this month.
The move to Germany did not develop due to Markovic’s concerns over a lack of playing time, although the opportunity of a late move abroad remains for the £20m signing who had a loan spell at Hull City last season.
Liverpool’s other business today involves loan deals for young players such as Sunderland-bound Ovie Ejaria. A quiet ending.
