Samir Nasri to join West Ham: Controversial former Man City star will reunite with Manuel Pellegrini Samir Nasri will undergo a medical at West Ham United ahead of signing a six-month deal with the Premier League club. The former Manchester City midfielder is set to reunite with Manuel Pellegrini, now in charge of West Ham, whom he played for at City. Nasri is now 31 and currently serving an 18-month ban for an anti-doping violation for using a drip treatment at a Los Angeles clinic. The former France international was playing for Sevilla, on loan from City, at the time
but is now a free agent. The ban ends at the end of December after which Nasri is free to resume his career. Under the terms of his ban, which was increased this year under appeal and back-dated to July 2017, Nasri has been allowed to train at a club from the beginning of November but cannot play until the turn of the year. West Ham are expected to meet Nasri’s £80,000-a-week wage demands having lost Ukraine midfielder Andriy Yarmolenko for the rest of the season with an Achilles injury.Nasri was an important part of Pellegrini’s Premier League-winning team of 2014 at City and has a good relationship with the Chilean. Nasri’s contract with Turkish club Antalyaspor was mutually terminated last January, following his doping ban.
Nasri took the drip treatment while on holiday in 2016, but it contravened World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) rules leading to a Spanish Anti-Doping investigation.
Wada rules state there is a 50 millilitre infusion limit per six-hour period for active athletes but it was alleged he received 500 millilitres of hydration in the form of sterile water containing micronutrient components.
In February 2017, a request by Sevilla for a retroactive therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for Nasri was refused by Uefa, and its decision was later upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Meanwhile, Nasri’s former Arsenal team-mate, midfielder Jack Wilshere, who has been out for more than two months with an ankle problem, is also due to resume full training next week at West Ham.
