Germany coach Joachim Low is not planning to call up world champions Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels any longer, saying the team needs to look to the future.

The Bayern Munich trio were part of the 2014 World Cup-winning team but the Germans crashed out of the 2018 World Cup in the group stage, their earliest exit in 80 years.

All three have also struggled for form this season and were informed in person by Low, who travelled to Munich to personally explain his decision.

"Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller will no longer be in the squad of the national team," Low told Bild.

"I thank Mats, Jerome and Thomas for the many successful, extraordinary and unique years we shared but in the national team it is now all about laying the foundations for the future. We want to give the team a new face. I am convinced that this is the right step."

With close to 250 international appearances between them, Hummels (70 caps), Muller (100) and Boateng (76) were part of the same generation.

Hummels and Boateng, both 30, played together in the 2009 U21 European championship triumph as Germany started to reap the first rewards of a major and sustained investment in youth players that had started seven years earlier.

They all graduated to the senior team and took part in the 2010 World Cup where Germany's youngest tournament team in 76 years reached the semi-finals with an exciting run that included wins over England and Argentina.

Muller, 29, has scored 10 goals at World Cups, winning the golden boot in 2010. He was the second-top scorer four years later with another five goals.

The trio's international cycle was complete when Germany were crowned world champions in 2014, having also clinched an extraordinary 7-1 victory against Brazil in the last four.

"Thomas, Mats and Jerome have achieved a lot until now for German football," Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff added.

"They will continue to do so for their club. I continue to feel very connected to them and am thankful for the time we spent together in the national team."

德國隊大換血！日耳曼軍團主帥路維周二突然宣佈，將14年世盃功臣湯馬士梅拿、曉姆斯以及謝路美保定排除出國家隊，他們三人未來亦不會被納入選兵名單，國家隊生涯正式告終。
湯馬士梅拿、曉姆斯以及謝路美保定三人皆為德甲班霸拜仁慕尼黑的球員，他們皆是國家隊多年來的主力，並在14年世盃決賽對阿根廷的賽事正選上陣。路維接受圖片報訪問時公佈有關決定，他說：「2019年是德國國家隊新的一年。謝路美保定、曉姆斯以及湯馬士梅拿都不再會被納入國家隊陣容之中，我要向球員本人以及拜仁慕尼黑教練解釋這個決定，這對於我來說是十分重要的。」
路維又感謝他們三人為國家隊作做的貢獻，但強調國家隊要迎來新面孔：「我們想為球隊引入新面孔，並確信這是正確的一步。在出戰2020年歐國盃的資格賽，我們發出了革新的訊息。年輕的球員有全面的空間成長，他們要負起責任了。」
國家隊經理比亞荷夫則指出，他們的決定是要令德國隊重返世界頂級行列，這或許意味路維不滿湯馬士梅拿、曉姆斯以及謝路美保定的表現，想來個大革新。皆因衛冕的德國竟在上屆俄羅斯世界盃分組賽提早出局，湯馬士梅拿、曉姆斯等人的表現更是非常一般。

路維解釋他的決定是要為國家隊引入更多生力軍，不過這說法未能令梅拿感到滿意，他說：「我不能理解這個決定，曉姆斯、保定以及我仍有能力出戰高水平的國際賽事。德國足總的聲明是預先準備的，我們並先前沒有被知會，沒有半點體諒。」

Loew had already paved the way for Mueller`s return by hinting he may reverse his 2019 decision, as the Covid-19 pandemic hampered his efforts to develop the German team.

Germany coach Joachim Loew has reportedly contacted Thomas Muller and is poised to reverse the forward`s 2019 exile by naming the Bayern Munich player in his Euro 2020 squad. According to daily Bild on Tuesday, Loew has phoned Mueller and "told him he wants to recall him" when the 26-man Germany squad for the European Championship is named on May 19.
Mueller, 31, has been in outstanding form for Bayern, who were confirmed Saturday as Bundesliga champions for the ninth straight season. In March 2019, Loew told Mueller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels they were no longer in his plans as he rebuilt the team after the debacle of the 2018 World Cup when the Germans finished last in their group.
After 15 years in charge, Loew, 61, will step down as head coach after the delayed Euros, which will run from June 11-July 11. Mueller has made 100 appearances for Germany since 2010 and was a key part of the squad which won the 2014 World Cup. Germany face world champions France, reigning European champions Portugal and Hungary in their group at Euro 2020. Loew had already paved the way for Mueller`s return by hinting he may reverse his 2019 decision, as the Covid-19 pandemic hampered his efforts to develop the German team.
