Shortlyafter learning their UEFA Champions League group stage fate, Málaga CFconfirmed the signing of SL Benfica forward Javier Saviola on a one-yeardeal.



UEFAChampions League debutants Málaga CF can count on the services offorward Javier Saviola after the former Argentinian internationalreached an agreement to rescind his contract with SL Benfica.Ithas been a summer of high-profile departures from La Rosaleda –including Santi Cazorla, José Rondón and the retired Ruud van Nistelrooy– leaving coach Manuel Pellegrini keen to reinforce his squad. The clubhave thus endeavoured to strengthen their attack by signing Saviola on aone-year deal.

The 30-year-old scored 24 goals in 69 top-flightappearances in his three seasons with Benfica after joining from RealMadrid CF, where he failed to nail down a starting place during atwo-year stint. Formed at CA River Plate, Saviola was first brought toEurope by FC Barcelona and amassed 49 goals in 123 Liga outings duringtwo spells at Camp Nou, between which he played on loan at AS Monaco andSevilla FC.A scorer of 11 goals in 40 internationals forArgentina, Saviola will look to help Málaga through UEFA ChampionsLeague Group C following Thursday's draw in Monaco, with the Boqueronesdue to meet AC Milan, RSC Anderlecht and their matchday one opponents on18 September, FC Zenit St Petersburg.

Málaga Club de Fútbol and Manchester City have come to an agreement over the loan of Paraguay-born striker Roque Luis Santa Cruz Cantero for one season. The international forward, who landed in Málaga last night, is now ready to join Manuel Pellegrini’s team, following his successful medical undertaken at Clínicas Rincón-Málaga Club de Fútbol. His successful career with Paraguay’s Club Olimpia saw them win three League championships; during his time with Bayern Munich, they won the Champions League, Intercontinental Cup, five Bundes Leagues, and four Germany Cups. Roque Santa Cruz has also played for Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League, and also with Real Betis. His 91 matches with the Paraguay national team saw him score 25 goals, and named as one of the country’s highest goal scorers.

El Málaga ha podido cerrar hoy mismo dos incorporaciones de una tacada. Saviola y Roque Santa Cruz vestirán la blanquiazul la próxima campaña. Tras varios días de duras conversaciones y negociaciones, el club ha logrado convencer al Benfica y al Manchester City, respectivamente. Y así, Manuel Pellegrini tiene ya a los dos delanteros que buscaba. Saviola podría pasar el reconocimiento médico esta misma tarde y Santa Cruz ya se encuentra en Málaga.


Ambas negociaciones han sido durísimas porque el presidente del Benfica no ha dado ninguna facilidad y porque en el caso del paraguayo, el Betis ha estado luchando hasta el último instante para retener al que fuera su delantero la pasada temporada.
El Málaga abonará casi 2 de los 5 millones de euros que cobra el ariete en el Manchester City.


Ahora, la intención de la dirección deportiva es cerrar la contratación de un central de garantías para que pueda completar un eje de la zaga algo justo, pues sólo están Demichelis y Weligton para esa demarcación.


Algo más de 24 horas tiene el Málaga para concretar las operaciones que pueda cerrar. Porque al margen de la del zaguero, no es descartable que pudiese venir otro futbolista más.
