Transfer news: Sao Paulo defender Douglas is on the verge of a move to Barcelona



Brazilian full-back Douglas is on the verge of securing a move to Catalan giants Barcelona, according to Sao Paulo’s vice-president Ataide Gil Guerreiro.

The 24-year-old Sao Paulo defender has been a long-term target of the Blaugrana,

and now it seems a deal has been agreed, with personal terms the only stumbling block to the transfer's completion.

"It's almost done," Guerreiro told ESPN Brasil.

"In three or four days the agreement should be signed."

Gurerreiro also added that Douglas, who has been touted as a long-term successor to Dani Alves, could be loaned back to the Brazilian side.

"I'll talk with the manager," Guerreiro added.

"There is a chance Bracelona will loan Douglas back to us for a year.

"Let's see if we can do that."

Barcelona will buy Douglas – Sao Paulo



Sao Paulo president Carlos Miguel Aidar has confirmed that right-back Douglas is primed to complete a move to Barcelona.

The Spanish outfit learned earlier on Wednesday that their appeal against a transfer ban owing to their signing of young foreign players had been rejected by Fifa,

but their decision to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) means that they can continue to buy players in the meantime.

As a result, the Catalans are expected to be active in the transfer market before the end of August and have closed in on the 24-year-old.

“Barcelona will buy Douglas and loan him back to Sao Paulo for a year,” Aidar confirmed to the media. “In 2015 he will go to Spain.”

There had been rumours that Dani Alves could move in the opposite direction but those were put to bed by the Brazilian outfit earlier in the week,

noting that the international star’s wage demands would preclude any deal being conducted.

Sao Paulo have said that they expect Douglas to complete his deal with the Camp Nou outfit on Monday.

FC Barcelona and Sao Paulo FC have reached an initial agreement for the transfer of  Douglas Pereira.

The deal will cost Barca four million Euros with performance variables of another one and a half million based on games blocks.

Douglas will travel to Barcelona for a medical at the end of this week,

when he will also put pen to paper on a five year deal and be officially presented as the Club’s latest summer signing.

Experienced wing back

The 24-year-old Douglas is a pacey right wing back who after three seasons, 75 appearances and five goals for his home town club of Goias signed for Sao Paolo in 2012 .

Over the last three seasons, Douglas has played 95 matches for Sao Paolo and scored four goals.
