Transfer news: Real Madrid announce deal for Norway teenager Martin Odegaard



Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Norwegian teenager Martin Odegaard, subject to a medical.

A deal has been struck with Stromsgodset for the 16-year-old midfielder, who has already been capped at international level and was linked with several other top European clubs.

Odegaard watched Real in Copa del Rey action earlier this month and will have his medical in Madrid on Thursday.

All being well, he will face the media at 12.30pm (UK time) alongside the club's sporting director Emilio Butrugueno.

Real Madrid C. F. and Stromsgodset Fotball have reached an agreement for the transfer of Martin Odegaard.

After undergoing a medical exam, the player will hold a press conference with the director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño, today 22 January at 1:30pm CET in the Ciudad Real Madrid press room.

Martin Ødegaard agrees to Real Madrid move

Ødegaard’s current Norwegian side, Strømsgodset and Real Madrid are now set to negotiate the details of the transfer that will see the young player move to the Spanish capital.
Madrid won the race for his signature after strong competition from major European clubs such as: Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Liverpool,
who all showed great interest in securing the Norwegian's services.

The player's father has been directly involved in all aspects of his son’s career move and Drammen DT report that he will be offered a coaching job at Real Madrid overseeing one of the clubs’ youth teams.
The plan is for the 16 year old Norwegian to play for Real Madrid’s “B” team, Castilla who play in the third tier of Spanish football and are managed by, Zinedane Zidane.

Ødegaard’s recent visit to Madrid was closely covered by international media and the player attended the Vicente Calderon stadium to watch the Copa del Rey game between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti has also praised the Norwegian in a recent press conference.

The Guardian are reporting that Strømsgodset attacking midfielder Martin Ødegaard has opted to join Real Madrid instead of Bayern Munich,
with talks with the European champions having already begun.
The broadsheet also claims that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger did offer the Norway international, 16, game time at the Emirates "soon",
but that was not enough to persuade the player to sign for the Gunners though
