Arsenal's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages lie in tatters after they were thrashed 5-1 by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
Robert Lewandoswki beat the offside trap to head Bayern in front after 10 minutes, and Thomas Muller doubled the lead with a deflected volley after Mesut Ozil had a goal disallowed for handball.
The Bundesliga champions showed no remorse after being beaten in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium as David Alaba added a superb third just before half-time, and substitute Arjen Robben scored with his first touch after the break.
Olivier Giroud scored a fine consolation before Muller netted a minute from time, but Arsenal's defeat -- coupled with Olympiakos' late win against Dinamo Zagreb -- means the Gunners need to beat the Greeks by two goals on the final matchday to stand any chance of progressing.
Laurent Koscielny joined Arsenal's growing injury list for the trip to Munich, with the centre-back ruled out due to a minor hip problem, while Joel Campbell was handed another start following his goal at Swansea on Saturday.
Robben was not included in Pep Guardiola's starting XI for Bayern, but the Bundesliga champions were a goal ahead after 10 minutes.
Koscielny's replacement Gabriel was too slow to play the offside trap from Thiago Alcantara's lofted cross, and Lewandowski clinically nodded past Petr Cech despite the protests of the Gunners defence.
Wenger's men responded quickly and thought they were level two minutes later as Ozil guided a Monreal cross home from close range, but their joy was short-lived.
The additional assistant referee alerted the official to a handball from Ozil as the Germany international appeared to elbow the ball into the net, and referee Gianluca Rocchi ruled out the goal and booked Ozil.
Cech then had to be alert to tip a Lewandowski effort around the post and the keeper denied the striker's header from the resulting corner, but he was powerless to prevent Bayern's second.
Debuchy failed to clear Philipp Lahm's cross from the right flank, and Muller's low half-volley deflected off Per Mertesacker before creeping into the bottom right-hand corner of Cech's net.
Bayern took total control with Cech superbly denying Muller a second from a close-range volley, but again Arsenal's No. 1 could do nothing as Alaba had time and space to curl home a fantastic 25-yard effort into the keeper's top-left corner.
The Gunners were three goals down at the interval for only the second time in their Champions League history, and Bayern had no intention of sitting back as Guardiola replaced Coman with Robben 54 minutes in.
The Netherlands winger scored with his first touch of the ball as Costa bamboozled his marker on the left before feeding Alaba, whose low cross was hammered high into the net by Robben 38 seconds after coming on.
Arsenal rallied after the Bayern's fourth goal, and Giroud opened the Gunners' account with a brilliant acrobatic volley on the turn after chesting an Alexis Sanchez cross down 21 minutes from time.
Santi Cazorla then wasted a presentable chance from eight yards out after a great run and cross from Francis Coquelin, but Wenger's side had left it far too late to mount a realistic comeback as Muller added another late on with a clinical low finish.
