Ukraine coach Mykhaylo Fomenko says he will quit after his team's last group game against Poland at Euro 2016 on Tuesday.

Ukraine are unable to reach the knockout stages of the tournament in France after defeats to Germany and Northern Ireland in Group C.

"What sense does it make to continue after failing with the task that was set for the tournament?", Fomenko told Ukraine's national TV channel "Football".

"I did not feel the united team that clinched the spot at the Euro finals.

"I paid attention to this during warm-up games against Cyprus and Wales. Everyone saw what was going on at the end of the Ukrainian championship. This situation affected the team's psychology."

Ukraine's preparations for the tournament suffered a setback after an unseemly row between two of their high-profile players.

Shakhtar midfielder Taras Stepanenko and Dynamo Kiev's Andriy Yarmolenko were involved in a spat during a league game.

自2012年開始執教烏克蘭國家隊的教練科文高（Mykhaylo Fomenko），宣佈會於球隊賽畢歐國盃小組賽最後一場對波蘭的賽事後離職。今屆烏克蘭的表現在水準之下，科文高難辭其咎，據聞這位67歲教練是被烏克蘭足總拒絕續約的，而非自願請辭。

科文高向烏克蘭當地電視台表示，若然自己在球隊出局後再執教，非常不合理，又稱覺得球隊不太團結，主力如史迪彭尼高和耶莫蘭高，早前已在聯賽中結下「牙齒印」：「我感覺不到球隊能在決賽周達成目標，早已在對塞浦路斯與威爾斯的熱身賽中留意到，很多人自烏克蘭國內聯賽完結後都察覺到問題。這問題影響了球隊內的心態。」

他續說：「我祟尚球隊內充滿和平及友誼，但作為一個正直的人，我需要為我的決定負上責任，我承認自己在這問題上做錯了決定。」

科文高亦在訪問中希望烏克蘭傳奇前鋒舒夫真高（Andriy Shevchenko）能接任烏克蘭主教練一職。「有何不可？他對於足球非常熟識，也擁有認可的教練牌照，我希望上天能庇佑他成為一名好教練。」

Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko has been appointed the new Ukraine head coach.

It is the 39-year-old's first steps into full senior management and his first match as head coach will be at home to Iceland in a 2018 World Cup qualifier on September 5.

Shevchenko joined the Ukraine coaching staff ahead of Euro 2016, succeeding Olexandr Zavarov as assistant to head coach Mykhaylo Fomenko.

But following a dismal showing in France, Fomenko resigned from his post and has now been replaced by his assistant.

Ukraine crashed out at the group stage of Euro2016, losing all three of their matches against Germany, Poland and Northern Ireland.

Shevchenko, who won the 2004 Ballon d'Or, scored 48 goals in 111 international appearances, representing his country at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and at Euro 2012, co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland.

He won the Champions League with AC Milan and FA Cup with Chelsea and previously turned down a chance to become Ukraine's head coach in 2012.

舒夫真高首場領軍的比賽，將是9月5日主場對冰島的世界盃外圍賽。烏克蘭在外圍賽列I組，同組球隊包括克羅地亞、科索沃、冰島、土耳其及芬蘭，小組沒勁旅，正正是實力平均。

於2004年當選歐洲足球先生的舒夫真高，歷來代表烏克蘭上陣111場入48球，曾參戰2006年世界盃及2012年由烏克蘭與波蘭合辦的歐國盃。球會方面，他曾協助AC米蘭贏得意甲及歐聯，成就斐然。
