England squad named for first 2018 World Cup qualifier

England manager Sam Allardyce has named a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

There is a first call-up for West Ham winger Michail Antonio, while Luke Shaw returns after a year-long absence through injury. Danny Drinkwater, Theo Walcott and Phil Jagielka are also recalled.

Speaking of Antonio's maiden selection, Allardyce said told TheFA.com: “I think he’s in outstanding form.

“This is another lad with a great journey – it’s a fantastic journey that he’s been on, from non-league to now an international call-up. He scored nine goals in his first season and he’s a terrific athlete, a good crosser and a goal-scorer.

“I’m looking forward to him coming, and looking forward to meeting everybody. Hopefully we will have a good few days’ preparation and get to know each other on the basis of trying to go and win in Slovakia.”

The Three Lions squad meets up at St. George's Park on Monday, ahead of facing Slovakia in Trnava on Sunday 4 September.

朗尼續任三獅隊長

【now.com體育】英格蘭國家隊主帥艾拿戴斯周一宣佈，繼續委任朗尼為球隊隊長。

月前接替鶴臣出任英格蘭國家隊主帥的艾拿戴斯，周一在記者會上表示，會將隊長人選押後到周二的記者會上才公佈；怎料僅過了半日時間，大Sam就在英格蘭足總官網提早公佈決定——朗尼（Wayne Rooney）毫無懸念地保留隊長一職：「一直以來，他在英格蘭都是一位非常優秀的隊長，而他履行其隊長職務的態度，都令我今次邀請他續任隊長的選擇變得很簡單。他過去的紀錄已是最佳證明；他是現時陣中資歷最深的球員，而且深受同儕尊敬。這些因素都指明，他就是帶領球隊的適當人選。」

對於足總公佈今次入選大軍名單時，朗尼的名字被列為中場球員，大Sam則解釋：「這並不反映我將會安排他踢甚麼位置。我們應該說是進攻中場嗎？抑或是射手？我認為朗尼在曼聯的位置改變了，我也許會把他安排在相同位置。」

30歲的朗尼，目前累積為國家隊上陣場數已達115場，只要周日鬥斯洛伐克一戰再獲派遣落場，將會以1場之差壓住碧咸，成為國家隊史上累積上陣場數最多的非門將球員。

Luke Shaw has been withdrawn from the England squad to play Slovakia on Sunday after being rested for training.

The Man United defender was called up for the first time since he broke a leg in horrific fashion last season, but he will not feature in Sam Allardyce's first World Cup qualifier.

It's thought that England are wary of pushing the defender too hard after such a lengthy injury lay-off, particularly since he has played every minute of United's Premier League campaign so far this season.

Spurs defender Danny Rose had been pencilled in to start the match at left-back regardless of Shaw's availability.

England XI to play Slovakia: Hart, Walker, Cahill, Stones, Rose, Dier, Henderson, Lallana, Rooney, Sterling, Kane.
