Chelsea and Monaco are continuing discussions over the proposed £43million sale of Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Chelsea are hopeful of fending off interest from Manchester United for the 22-year-old though Monaco have asked whether they can have Michy Batshuayi or Charly Musonda as part of the deal.
United maintain an interest in Chelsea's Nemanja Matic and Monaco's Fabinho, should they miss out on Bakayoko this summer.
The defensive midfielder shot to fame this season as Monaco won the French first division, with the youngster in the heart of the team throughout the campaign.
He has made 46 appearances in all competitions, leading to a number of top European clubs expressing an interest in his services.

Chelsea are the most likely to secure his signature though, with Conte believed to be set for talks with the Frenchman in the coming days.
Musonda is the most likely to head to Monaco in any kind of swap deal, after failing to break into the Chelsea team following his lean move at Real Betis.
He returned early from Spain due to a knee injury, but despite training with the first team when he was back fit he did not make an appearance in Conte's XI.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is a Chelsea player having today completed a transfer from Monaco.

Bakayoko, 22, is a tall, strong and quick central midfielder who was instrumental in Monaco’s Ligue 1 triumph last season, as well as their impressive run to the Champions League semi-finals.

He recently made his debut for France in the same line-up as new team-mate N’Golo Kante, and is widely recognised as one of the best young central midfielders in European football.

Bakayoko, who has signed a five-year contract and will wear the No.14 shirt, said: ‘I am very happy to be here and to join this great team. I have grown up watching Chelsea. Signing was the natural thing for me because it is a club I loved very much in my childhood.

‘I am now looking forward to evolving under this fantastic coach and alongside so many great team-mates.’

Technical director Michael Emenalo added: ‘Tiemoue was outstanding as Monaco emerged as one of Europe’s best sides last season and we are delighted to welcome him to Chelsea.

‘Despite his young age he already has plenty of experience as a French title winner and having competed in the latter stages of the Champions League, we believe he will add considerable quality to our squad.’

In possession, Bakayoko typically plays quickly and simply but has the ability to be more expansive if required, and is strong in a one-on-one situation.

His physicality, awareness and timing in the tackle means he is superb at winning the ball back and harassing opponents into mistakes. In a tight central midfield two at Monaco he starred as they unexpectedly beat Paris St-Germain to the title and also reached the last four of the Champions League, knocking out Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund en route. Bakayoko scored the decisive goal in a thrilling two-legged tie against the Premier League side.

Born in Paris, Bakayoko came through the Rennes academy in the north-west of France and made his senior debut in August 2013, a week after his 19th birthday.

He signed for Monaco the following summer and made almost 100 appearances for the principality side during his three seasons there, scoring five goals.

Chelsea appear close to completing the transfer of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco, with the midfielder posting a photograph from the Premier League club's training ground on Friday.

Bakayoko uploaded a photo to his social media accounts on Friday of the Chelsea training pitches, with the caption "soon".

Tiemoue Bakayoko will finally undergo the last part of his Chelsea medical on Friday after the Blues agreed a deal worth up to £39.7 million, plus add-ons, with Monaco.

Chelsea have been waiting for over a fortnight to complete the Bakayoko deal because of knee surgery the 22 year-old underwent at the end of last season.

During the intervening period, Monaco became frustrated by the payment structure proposed by Chelsea, who wanted to buy Bakayoko for a £35m flat fee.

But the dispute over the fee has now been resolved after Chelsea agreed to increase their bid and Bakayoko will complete his medical on Friday before officially being announced as a Blues player.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport on Wednesday, Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte fears Bakayoko may not be ready to make his full debut until September.

Bakayoko’s preparations for the new season have been limited while he has recovered from his operation and he is a long way behind the rest of the Chelsea squad.

Conte will decide on Friday whether Bakayoko joins his squad on their pre-season tour of China and Singapore, which they depart for on Monday, or whether he remains in England to work on his fitness at Cobham.

Bakayoko will be Chelsea’s third signing of the summer, following Willy Caballero and Antonio Rudiger. The club are in talks with Real Madrid over right-back Danilo and striker Alvaro Morata, and are also negotiating with Juventus for left-back Alex Sandro.
