The region has seen some snowfall over the weekend but it has been far less heavy and widespread this morning than predicted by the Met Office.

There had been fears Everton and Liverpool’s match would have to be postponed, but the authorities are now saying confidently it will kick off as planned at Anfield at 2.15pm.

Club officials, travel operators and the police are still warning fans to allow extra time to get to the stadium and to take extra care during their journeys.

Three Women's Super League 1 games have been postponed because of the freezing conditions and snow across the UK on Sunday.

Yeovil Town Ladies v Reading Women, Arsenal Women v Liverpool Ladies and Birmingham City Ladies v Bristol City Women have succumbed to the weather.

Sunday's racing at Huntingdon and Kelso and Monday's meet at Musselburgh have also been abandoned.

Amber weather warnings have been issued across large parts of the country.
