Swansea City have sacked manager Paul Clement after just 11 months in charge at the club.

Clement led Swansea to safety in May after his appointment at the beginning of the year, but the club finally lost patience following a terrible run of results left the south Wales club rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

In a statement released by the club on Wednesday night, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said: “To change the manager, especially at only the halfway point of the season, is the last thing we wanted to do as a club.

“We had three different manager last season and as a result we all wanted to give Paul as much time as possible to turn things around.

“But we felt we couldn’t leave it any longer and needed to make a change to give us the best chance of an uplift and a turnaround in fortunes with the club bottom of the Premier League.

“Paul has been at the club for 12 months and what he achieved in the second half of last season to keep us in the top flight was a tremendous feat. For that, and his effort and commitment this season, it goes without saying that the club thanks him for his work, together with Nigel (Gibbs) and Karl (Halabi).

“I have had an excellent working relationship with Paul and we are all, including the owners, surprised and disappointed it hasn’t worked out this season.

“We wish Paul every success in his career going forward.’’

卡路士卡華路（Carlos Carvalhal）於聖誕節前夕慘被請吃「無情雞」，被所屬球會錫周三解僱致帥位不保，但對該名52歲葡萄牙教頭來說，被炒似乎並非壞事，原因是只是相隔4天，他就覓得新東家，被委任為英超史雲斯的新一任領隊。

史雲斯對卡華路感興趣不是始於近幾日的事，早於兩年前蒙克離開「天鵝」時，卡華路已被盛傳是史雲斯主帥的首選人物，只是最終沒有成事，而執教錫周三期間，他曾兩度帶領球會躋身英冠升班附加賽，及至今季成功轉差，錫周三現時只排在英冠積分榜第14位，埋下了其帥位不保的伏線。

然而，卡華路今番轉教史雲斯絕對不是優差，「天鵝」本季踢罷20場過後只得13分，敬陪於英超榜末位置，距離安全線有5分距離，護級將會是他的首要任務。卡華路跟史雲斯的合同直至季尾，但合約中就帶有可延伸合同的附帶條款。

Carrlos Carvalhal is the new head coach of Swansea City.

A formal announcement has been made to confirm the appointment of the 52-year-old Portuguese coach who was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday on Christmas Eve with the Championship club in 15th place.

Carvalhal is understood to have agreed a deal until the end of this season with an option to remain beyond that should he be successful. His first match in charge is away to Watford on Saturday when he will face fellow Portuguese Marco Silva.

Player-coach Leon Britton has been in temporary charge of the Welsh club since they sacked Paul Clement on Dec 20. Briton is expected to stay on under Carvalhal.

The midfielder, 35, oversaw two games, a home draw against Crystal Palace and a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. Swansea are currently five points adrift of safety with Carvalhal becoming their fifth manager in just two years.
