Liverpool will target a move for £60million rated Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir following Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.
The Reds’ recruitment staff have heavily scouted the France international over the course of this campaign and Jurgen Klopp believes he would be a top class addition to the club’s attacking armoury.
Fekir is a product of Lyon’s Academy and has enjoyed a fine season - netting 23 goals and providing nine assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.
He is viewed as an ideal replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona for £142million back in January.
Reports in France have repeatedly linked Fekir with a move to Anfield. Asked about the prospect of joining the Reds, the 24-year-old said: “Why not? Later there can be discussions with the president, with my entourage, to make a decision. In life, nothing can be forbidden.”
Earlier this month Liverpool winger Sadio Mane said he believed that Fekir would be a great summer signing for Liverpool. Mane told SFR Sport: “He is a top player, we would be happy seeing him with us. If he comes he’ll do great things with us. Yes, it will be like fire if he comes.”
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas played down talk of negotiations taking place between the clubs but the Reds will step up their pursuit of Fekir next week.
Klopp needs to bolster his midfield with Emre Can set to leave on a free transfer and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain expected to be out for six months with a knee injury.
