Everton are close to signing Richarlison from Watford in a transfer which could be worth up to £50million.

Marco Silva has returned to his former club in pursuit of the 21-year-old Brazilian who made an explosive start to his career in England.

Watford stand to make a staggering profit on Richarlison, a striker who was signed for £11.5m from Fluminense on a five-year deal last summer having starred in the Under-20 World Cup.

He scored five goals in his first dozen Premier League games, and impressed with his fast and aggressive dribbling style, often playing from the left in a front-three.

His goals dried up, and he has not scored since November but Silva enjoyed a good relationship with Richarlison and is certain he can coax the best from him.

The board at Goodison Park are determined to back their manager in the transfer market even though it means reopening negotiations with Watford.

Relations between the two clubs have been strained since Everton tried to tempt 41-year-old Silva from Vicarage Road, last season.

Everton made repeated approaches for his services, starting when the two teams met on Merseyside in November.

Watford’s owner Gino Pozzo refused to yield despite offers of compensation thought to go as high as £20m but later become convinced Silva’s focus had been unsettled by the episode.

Everton have signed Brazilian winger Richarlison from fellow Premier League side Watford in a potential £50m deal on a five-year deal.

Everton are believed to have paid an initial £35m for the 21-year-old, with further clauses taking it to £50m.

Manager Marco Silva signed Richarlison for £11.5m from Fluminense in August 2017 when he was in charge at Vicarage Road, after the Under-20 World Cup.

"I want to have a lot of success with Everton," said Richarlison.

"I think it is going to be important for me to be with Marco Silva again. I will learn more because I am still learning as a player and I aim to develop and grow here.

"I developed really well with him while he was with me at Watford. It was really good working with him and one day I believe he can help me to be selected for Brazil in the full national team.

"Everton have put their faith in me and I intend to honour this shirt and demonstrate on the pitch why I came here. I want my dreams to become a reality here at one of the biggest clubs in England."

Richarlison scored five goals in his first 12 Premier League matches and although has not netted since November, Silva has been keen to take him to Everton since he succeeded the sacked Sam Allardyce on 31 May.

"Richarlison is a good player who will make our team and our squad more competitive," said Portuguese boss Silva. "The competition between our players is really important to me.

"The player himself is fast, strong, very good technically and he can play in three positions across the front line. He can also score goals."

The Merseyside club's record signing is Gylfi Sigurdsson, who joined from Swansea in August 2017 for £45m.

Everton hope to sign Watford's Brazilian forward Richarlison within 24 hours in a deal that could eventually be worth £50m.

The 21-year-old was having a medical with the Goodison Park club on Monday.

Toffees boss Marco Silva signed Richarlison for £11.5m from Fluminese in August 2017 when he was in charge at Vicarage Road, after the player had impressed in the Under-20 World Cup.

He scored five goals in his first 12 Premier League matches.

Richarlison has not netted since November, but Silva has been keen to bring him to Everton since he succeeded the sacked Sam Allardyce on 31 May.

Everton were believed to be willing to pay about £35m but there are likely to be clauses that will take the deal closer to Watford's asking price of £50m.

The Merseyside club's record signing is Gylfi Sigurdsson, who joined from Swansea in August 2017 for £45m.
