Manchester United are ready to open the bidding for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made the Crystal Palace defender his top target at right-back and told Ed Woodward to make his first move.

United are expected to table an opening bid of £25million for the 21-year-old.

And although that offer is certain to be rejected, it will begin negotiations over the starlet who Solskjaer has tracked since taking charge in December.

Jose Mourinho had earmarked Diogo Dalot as the long-term solution at right-back - but Solskjaer has made filling that position one of his priorities this summer.

Palace are expected to hold out for at least £50m for Wan-Bissaka - and the potential of a rival bid from Manchester City will help them reach that total.

United are stepping up their summer overhaul, with Daniel James set to become their first signing of the window.

The club are locked in talks with Swansea for the Wales winger, with a deal worth between £15m-£20m expected to be agreed imminently.

United are also ready to firm up interest in Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff as Solskjaer’s commitment to recruiting emerging British talent gathers pace.

Solskjaer has asked executive vice-chairman Woodward to complete his summer business by the start of July, when the players return for pre-season training.

He wants to bring in as many as five new signings - but that figure could grow, dependent on who leaves during this window.

Solskjaer intends to strengthen in every department, but fears he will miss out on top target Jadon Sancho.

Longstaff is one of a host of midfielders he is looking at along with Idrissa Gueye and Bruno Fernandes.

Announcement of the signing was delayed by a final round of negotiations between the clubs that resulted in Palace securing a clause that will entitle them to a 10 per cent sell on fee should the right back leave for more than £50 million in the future.

“Aaron is one of the best upcoming defenders in the Premier League,” Solskjaer said. “He has the right work ethic, talent and mentality to play for Manchester United and he fits exactly the type of player that we are looking to bring into the squad to help us improve and push on further.

“Aaron is a young, hungry player and eager to learn and that’s important at his age. I am delighted he has signed with us and we look forward to continuing his tremendous development so far."

The 21-year-old defender came through the ranks of Crystal Palace’s academy. He made his professional debut in February 2018 and picked up both the fans’ player of the year award and also the players’ player of the year award in his first full season. Aaron represented England at this year’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Manchester United have signed England Under-21 right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in a £50m deal.

The 21-year-old, who made his first-team debut for Palace last year, has agreed a five-year contract that will earn him up to £80,000 a week.

United are paying £45m up front, making Wan-Bissaka the club's fifth-biggest signing, behind Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Angel di Maria and Fred.

He is the club's second summer recruit, after Daniel James joined from Swansea.

Wales international James, 21, cost £15m.

Wan-Bissaka, who has been on international duty this month at the European Under-21 Championship, joined Palace's academy when he was 11.

The defender was on £10,000 a week at Selhurst Park, the lowest-paid player in Palace's first-team squad.

His transfer was delayed by final negotiations between the clubs, which ended with the Eagles securing a 10% sell-on clause if Wan-Bissaka leaves United for more than £50m.

The deal is yet to be formally announced by the Old Trafford club.
