Marko Arnautovic has handed in a transfer request at West Ham, Sky Sports News understands.

It is understood that an unnamed Chinese side has made an offer to West Ham for the 30-year-old, who has told the club he is determined to leave east London during this summer's transfer window.

However, West Ham's position on Arnautovic has not changed. He is not for sale and the Hammers expect him to honour the contract extension he signed in January.

The Austrian attracted interest from two Chinese clubs, believed to be Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou Evergrande, in January, with West Ham rejecting a £35m bid for him.

Rather than cash in, Manuel Pellegrini agreed to give him a new £100,000-a-week deal, keeping him at the club until 2023.

Arnautovic joined West Ham from Stoke two years ago for £25m and has scored 22 goals in 65 appearances.

Now, speaking on Sky Sports News' The Transfer Show, Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealed the club are ready to get rid of the controversial Austria international.

"I have been in touch with a very senior source at West Ham and asked him 'are you okay with us reporting that a deal has been agreed for Arnautovic to go to China? We have heard it will be announced in two days.'

"He has just sent me a reply, and the reply says 'yes. Terrible deal for us, but manager, staff and players want him out'.

"They are so desperate to get him out of the club that they are willing to do a terrible deal to get him out of West Ham.

"I have had another message from someone else who knows what is going on at West Ham, and it says 'a deal is getting closer for Marko to leave ?25m. We feel we have no choice but to let Marko go as it is bad for team morale if he stays.

"'The team is the most important thing and players who want to play for a team moving in the right direction is the most important thing.'"

Arnautovic signed a contract extension in January which saw his wages rise by 20 per cent to £120,000 a week including a £40m release clause which expired on June 14.

A sell-on clause means Arnautovic's former club, Stoke, will be due 20 per cent of any fee above £20m. He is due to return to training with rest of the squad in Switzerland on Monday.

West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic is close to a move to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG for £22.4m.

Arnautovic, 30, told the Hammers he wanted to quit London Stadium earlier this week when he learned of renewed interest from China.

West Ham's initial reaction was to tell the Austria international, who signed a new deal five months ago, to honour his contract.

But an increased bid has been received which is now likely to be accepted.

The Premier League club feel it is better to let Arnautovic leave than allow a potentially disruptive influence remain in Manuel Pellegrini's squad.

Arnautovic previously expressed a desire to take up a big-money offer from China in January, but remained with the London club.

West Ham are due to travel to China later in July for matches in Nanjing and Shanghai in the pre-season Premier League Asia Trophy tournament.

When Arnautovic signed a contract extension in January, he said: "The fans gave me the power, they gave me the energy.

"That's why I have to be here and that's why I want to stay."
