Everton have had a £30m bid for Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi and a loan offer for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling rejected.

The Toffees are expected to return with an improved bid for 23-year-old Nigeria international Iwobi - but it is likely to have to exceed £40m to be accepted.

Iwobi is not agitating to leave but is willing to move if a deal is agreed.


Smalling, 29, is one of seven centre-backs at United after the £80m signing of his England team-mate Harry Maguire.

He has made 323 appearances for the Old Trafford club, winning Premier League titles in 2011 and 2013.

Meanwhile, Everton are still pursuing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

In July, the Toffees confirmed an initial bid for the 26-year-old Ivory Coast international had been rejected, but denied making a second players-plus-cash offer.

至於阿仙奴，收番成三千萬咁滯。幾乎填哂今季大部分既支出，係財政上就梗係一流啦。但次次自己隊波有人稍為打得好少少就賣，都真係令人幾洩氣。佢係呢大半年真係進步左好多架。同埋，我覺得佢幾適合宜家既阿仙奴。不過無用，老細唔睇你，幾努力都無意義。

Everton have signed forward Alex Iwobi from Arsenal on a five-year deal for a fee that could rise to £34m.

Iwobi came through the ranks at the Gunners, scoring 15 goals in 149 games.

The Nigeria forward is Marco Silva's seventh summer signing.

Iwobi joins fellow new arrivals goalkeeper Jonas Lossl, defender Djibril Sidibe, midfielders Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, and striker Moise Kean.

Everton had an initial bid of £30m turned down but their improved offer - reported to be an initial £28m, rising to £34m with potential add-ons - was accepted.

Alex Iwobi has signed for Everton from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee after agreeing a five-year deal until the end of June 2024.

The 23-year-old forward is the Blues’ seventh and final signing of the summer transfer window following the additions of goalkeeper Jonas Lössl, right-back Djibril Sidibe, midfielders Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, and striker Moise Kean.

Nigeria international Iwobi, who has 36 caps and helped his country to the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals this summer, came through Arsenal’s academy before making his first-team debut for the Londoners in October 2015 at the age of 19.

Everton manager Marco Silva said: “Alex was one of our main targets for this window and I believe he is a fantastic signing for Everton. He is a direct and skilful winger and attacking midfielder who always works very hard for his team.

“He is still young but already with a lot of top-level experience – 100 Premier League matches, more in Europe and many international games.

“It was important for me to have one more quality option for our attacking positions to add to what we have with Richarlison, Bernard and Theo Walcott.

“Alex fits exactly the profile of player I want in my model. He is hungry to join Everton and take the next step in his career, to help us compete with the strongest teams in the league and reach his potential at our club.”
