Mesut Ozil fears he could have played his last game for Arsenal . Arsenal are plotting ways of trying to offload the £350,000-a-week star in January and are ready to subsidise his wages after Ozil fell out of favour with Unai Emery. Gunners boss Emery insisted that Ozil did not “deserve” to be starting ahead of some of the club’s youngsters and his Arsenal career now looks over. Ozil, who turns 31 next week, believes there is no way back and it appears the club are ready to draw a line in the sand and get rid of the World Cup winner. Former Germany star Ozil has been quite clear in the past that he does not want to leave Arsenal and loves living in London.
But there appears to be a realisation that Ozil does not fit into Emery’s plans or philosophy and the Spaniard has not been impressed with his attitude in training. Emery has been reluctant to pick Ozil for away games because of a lack of work rate and, despite being named as one of the club’s five captains in a dressing room vote, the club want to move him on. There was interest from Major League Soccer in the summer but the worry is no one can afford his wages while Arsenal know they will have to pay a huge chunk of his contract if they let him go to another European club. It is a sad end to Ozil’s time in English football as he was a £42.5million superstar when he arrived at Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013.
But despite winning the World Cup during that time, he has rarely captured his best form for Arsenal and is now heading for the exit.
