Diogo Jota: Liverpool in talks to sign Wolves winger for around £35m

Liverpool are escalating their interest in Diogo Jota from Wolves and are optimistic of following up the signing of Thiago by adding the forward to their squad for a fee expected to be in excess of £35 million.

Jurgen Klopp has long been an admirer of the versatility and work rate of the Portugal international, who was left out of the Carabao Cup defeat to Stoke by Nuno Espirito Santo.

That signals a transfer is close and with Reds defender Ki-Jana Hoever moving in the opposite direction in a permanent deal, the clubs have been locked in negotiations with the intention of finding speedy conclusions to both situations.

Jota is represented by Gestifute, who Liverpool dealt with to secure Fabinho.

The 23-year-old topped the champions’ shortlist of candidates to fortify their attack, while enquiries were also made for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, but his valuation was exorbitant.

Liverpool sign Diogo Jota for £41m from Wolves as Ki-Jana Hoever moves to Molineux

Liverpool have completed the signing of Portugal forward Diogo Jota from Wolves in a £41m deal that could rise to £45m with add-ons.

The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions.

"It's just a really exciting moment for me and my family," said Jota.

The move represents a net outlay of about £30m for Liverpool, with defender Ki-Jana Hoever moving the other way for £9m and a possible £4.5m in add-ons.

Liverpool have also negotiated a 15% sell-on clause in the transfer taking Dutch player Hoever to Molineux.

"When you look at the Premier League, you always see Liverpool as one of the biggest teams in the country, so it's impossible to say no," said Jota.

"I think I am a team player. I play up front and my job is to find a way to score goals and to provide assists and that's what they can expect from me - that I will always do my best.

"I will always try to help the team in the best way possible."

Jota's move follows the Anfield club's £20m capture of Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich on Friday.

They have also signed Greece left-back Kostas Tsimikas for about £11.7m this summer.

Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Portugal international Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a long-term contract.

The 23-year-old joins the Premier League champions after three seasons with Wolves – two in the top flight, which included 67 appearances and 16 goals for the versatile forward.

Jota also scored nine times in 14 Europa League outings in 2019-20 and opened his account for his country in a UEFA Nations League clash with Croatia earlier this month.

“It’s just a really exciting moment for me and my family,” he told Liverpoolfc.com upon sealing the transfer on Saturday.

“All of my path since I was a kid and now, to join a club like Liverpool – the world champions – is just unbelievable. I just want to get started.

“It is one of the best teams in the world – the best at the moment because they are world champions. When you look at the Premier League, you always see Liverpool as one of the biggest teams in the country, so it’s impossible to say no.

“So we just want to come [here], to give our best and hopefully I can become a good option for Liverpool in the future.”

Jota – who will take the vacant No.20 shirt for the Reds – began his career with Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal before he was signed by Atletico Madrid in 2016.
