Although there has been increased speculation about a deal involving Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld in recent days, there has been no offer from United and Leicester are determined to keep England international Harry Maguire, who has four years left on his contract.

There is time for the situation to change, although, with United adamant they will not be held to ransom over any deal, at such a late stage of the transfer window, it is hard to see whether the costs of signing someone like Mina would be worthwhile.

Mourinho has already signed two central defenders as United manager, playing £30m for Eric Bailly in 2016 and £31m for Victor Lindelof last summer.

Jose Mourinho's press conference has kicked off with the Manchester United manager being quizzed about any further additions to his squad. The Portuguese had this to say...

"The information I have is no. I’m not confident. The market closes today so there’s time at least for me to stop thinking about it. I will have to focus on the players I have in relation to the first three matches, because after Spurs there is an international break and I have a couple of weeks to recover people and prepare them better. I have to focus on the players that are available."
