Tottenham closing in on deal to sign Ryan Sessegnon



Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal to sign Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham following a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs.

And Fulham could use some of the cash banked on Sessegnon to sign Spurs midfielder Josh Onomah, while the Cottagers have also shown an interest in winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

Onomah and Nkoudou were both left off Tottenham’s tour to Asia and have been told they can find new clubs.

It is unclear whether or not the duo have been offered as part of a Spurs bid for Sessegnon or whether Fulham would try to sign either player with the cash raised on the 19-year-old.

But Fulham’s interest in Onomah and Nkoudou has helped to push negotiations along and Sessegnon is now expected to become a Tottenham player.

Spurs are likely to pay around £20 million plus add-ons for Sessegnon, who only has one year remaining on his Fulham contract.

Despite interest from Manchester United and from overseas, Sessegnon’s preference has always been to team up with Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, where he believes he will receive first-team chances.

Spurs are trying to offload left-back Danny Rose and last week banked £20m for Kieran Trippier, who joined Atletico Madrid.

Sessegnon will follow club record-signing Tanguay Ndombele to Tottenham and winger Jack Clarke, who has been sent back to Leeds United on loan.

Pochettino wants at least one more player, as well as Sessegnon, to add to his squad, with the Argentine hoping chairman Daniel Levy can agree a deal with Real Betis for midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

The clause in Toby Alderweireld’s contract that allows him to leave Tottenham for £25m expires on Friday, but the Belgian will still only have a year remaining on his contract.

Christian Eriksen is also waiting to see whether Real Madrid, Juventus or Manchester United bid for him, over a month since he confirmed he would be interested in pursuing a new challenge.

Sessegnon to have medical at Tottenham this morning as they chase four completing deals -  Atal, Dybala and all Celso.

The Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is a long-standing admirer of Sessegnon. The defender, who can also play further up the field, made his first team debut for Fulham aged 16 years and 81 days in 2016 and was outstanding as the club were promoted to the Premier League in 2018.

Last season was a difficult one for player and club as they were relegated and had three managers, Slavisa Jokanovic, Claudio Ranieri and Scott Parker, during the season. Sessegnon made 35 Premier League appearances, scoring two goals.

It is expected that the Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah will join Fulham as part of the deal.
