West Ham are hoping to complete a deal to sign forward Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen this week, according to Sky sources.

Hammers manager Slaven Bilic is eager to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season and Sky Sports News understands a deal for the Mexico international is edging closer.

Hernandez, who spent five years at Manchester United between 2010 and 2015, has a £13m release clause in his contract at Leverkusen.

Sky Sports News revealed earlier this month that West Ham had held talks with the 29-year-old about a move to the London Stadium, with the club intent on signing at least one forward this summer.

Hernandez has scored 39 times during two seasons with Leverkusen.

West Ham are expected to sign Javier Hernandez "in a matter of days", according to Sky sources.

The former Manchester United striker, who almost joined the Hammers when he left Old Trafford two years ago, has a £13m release clause in his Bayer Leverkusen contract.

Sky Sports News understands the Mexico international wants to return to the Premier League.

If completed, Hernandez’s first league outing for his new club would be against United at Old Trafford on August 13, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

Javier Hernandez terms agreed



West Ham United and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed terms for the transfer of Javier Hernandez to London Stadium.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker will fly to London in the coming days to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical with the Hammers.

Hernandez, 29, affectionately known as ‘Chicharito’ across the globe, became Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer in May this year.
