Chelsea in talks with former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero as Blues target free agent- Willy Caballero left Manchester City when contract expired at end of season
- He is in talks with Chelsea about joining but has offers in Spain and Argentina
- Chelsea are targeting him as replacement for Asmir Begovic who left club
Chelsea are continuing discussions with former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero. The 35-year-old is a free agent since leaving Manchester City. He also has offers in England, Spain and his native Argentina.Chelsea have discussed a number of options, including Caballero's former teammate Joe Hart, as they want a keeper to replace Asmir Begovic who has joined Bournemouth. Caballero impressed when he came into Pep Guardiola's starting line-up last season at the expense of Claudio Bravo.
He made 24 starts in all competitions last season and kept eight clean sheets in total.
But age is not on the Argentinian's side and City recently completed the signing of Brazilian stopper Ederson from Benfica.
Begovic was seen by Chelsea as a dependable pair of hands last season but became frustrated by the lack of opportunities as No 1.
It seems Caballero would have to deputise for Thibaut Courtois if he joined the club and may want to spend the remaining years of his career with as much time on the pitch as possible.
Antonio Conte has pigeonholed goalkeeper as a position to strengthen and will also be keen to resolve the situation at the other end of the pitch having told Diego Costa his services are no longer needed.
