Jerome Boateng is in talks over a move to Paris Saint-Germain, says Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Rummenigge has told reporters in Germany that the centre-back's agents are in discussions with the French club to find the basis of a transfer.

Manchester United have also been interested in Boateng, who had a disappointing World Cup as Germany crashed out at the group stage.

Rummenigge said: "At the moment there is no direct contact between the clubs. But there is contact between his agents and PSG

"We have to wait, if we could find a basis for a transfer. Now we have to wait and see whether, at the end of the day, we find a basis on which we can agree on a transfer.

"We have to find a transfer fee that would be acceptable for both."

Boateng joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2011 and has made 258 appearances, winning six Bundesliga titles and the 2013 Champions League.

The 29-year-old also has 73 caps for Germany and was part of their 2014 World Cup-winning squad.

Man Utd in talks to sign Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are in negotiations for Jerome Boateng, the Bayern Munich defender who might yet be a solution to one of Jose Mourinho’s biggest squad issues.

The German club have priced the 29-year-old at £50 million and will only sell if they can find a replacement in time for the close of the European transfer window. Boateng played the second half of the friendly against United at the Allianz Arena on Sunday night.

The former Manchester City defender is by no means United’s first choice but such is Mourinho’s dissatisfaction that they need contingencies.

Mourinho said after the game in Munich that his chief executive Ed Woodward ‘knows what I want for quite a long time’ and was doing his best.

Having failed so far in bids for Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina, Boateng is thought to be one of a number of options United are pursuing. Boateng was injured in April but made it back to play for Germany at the World Cup finals. Bayern would be happy to cash in if they could find a replacement before 31 Aug.

they only want one. Boateng seen as more feasible. He wants out of Bayern. Levy hard to deal with, as you know. Word is they rate Alderweireld at £75m
