Arsenal news: Mathieu Debuchy to review his future in JanuaryFrench defender could seek a move from the Emirates after falling out of first team contention under Arsene WengerMathieu Debuchy is ready to review his future at Arsenal in January after losing his starting place this year for both club and country. The 30-year-old is again not part of the France squad for forthcoming international matches against Germany and England and, although he has played Arsenal’s last two matches - including the 1-1 draw with Tottenham - following injury to Hector Bellerin, has been struggling for match sharpness following ankle and shoulder injuries last season.
He previously told L’Equipe that he thought about leaving Arsenal during the summer after Bellerin was selected ahead of him in the Community Shield but eventually decided to stay and fight for his place.
Debuchy was still in the France team at that time, however, and has subsequently been kept out of Didier Deschamps’ squad by Bacary Sagna and Christophe Jallet.
He will also almost certainly drop out of Arsenal’s starting team when Bellerin returns from his current groin injury.
“I am dealing with it,” Debuchy told Canal+. “I am trying to stay strong. We are going to remain concentrated until December, after that I will see.”Debuchy was France’s first-choice right-back ahead of Sagna and Jallet as France reached the World Cup quarter-final last year but his place is now in major doubt ahead of a home European Championship next summer.Arsene Wenger will be sympathetic to Debuchy’s situation but will be reluctant to lose squad cover in January, especially as he can also play at centre-back.
Calum Chambers would also provide potential back-up to Bellerin at right-back while, in the longer-term, Carl Jenkinson can return after what has been a successful loan spell with West Ham United.
Per Mertesacker, the Arsenal defender, says there is only so long Arsenal can continue to cope with their crippling injury list, although Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could all return soon after the international break.
"It is very important (to have them back)," he said. "Over a short period you can replace a couple of players, but with two games a week - and the intensity will not lessen - you need a lot of players who can replace each other and come and give energy.
