Chelsea to cancel Radamel Falcao loan deal – reports



Radamel Falcao has flown back to Monaco with Chelsea set to cancel his loan deal, according to reports in France.

The striker moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer but he has endured a miserable time.

The Colombian has been troubled by injury and he has found the net just once in 11 appearances for the Blues.

And now, according to La Provence, Falcao has flown back to Monaco to discuss his future with his parent club.

The Ligue 1 side are happy to welcome the 29-year-old back into the fold after shelling out nearly £50million to sign him from Atletico Madrid in 2013.

Falcao's departure from Stamford Bridge is expected to provide youngster Patrick Bamford with a chance to stake his claim for a spot in the first-team squad.

FALCAO SIGHTED AT COBHAM

Sky sources have confirmed Radamel Falcao was at the Chelsea training ground on Wednesday and Thursday, amid speculation he had returned to Monaco to discuss his future with his parent club.

It has been reported in France that the striker was seen arriving at the Monaco training ground on Tuesday, although neither club have confirmed this to be true.

Sky Sports News HQ understands if Falcao was there, this would most likely have been to allow their medical staff to assess his current thigh injury, after he suffered a setback in his rehabilitation over the Christmas period. It is not uncommon for parent clubs to evaluate their own players when they are injured on loan to other clubs.

It is unclear whether there is a break clause in the loan agreement between the clubs, while the player has also been linked with a move to MLS side Columbus Crew. Their season starts in March, which would in theory allow him time to fully recuperate from his current injury.

Chelsea striker Radamel Falcao looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge for the rest of the season after Monaco ruled out the possibility of him making a swift return to the principality.

The Colombia international is on loan from the French Ligue 1 club but has struggled to make a significant impact since Jose Mourinho brought him to west London during the summer.

Falcao has not featured at all since the end of October due to a thigh injury and was back at Monaco's training ground earlier in the week to undergo checks on the problem.

Monaco believe the 29-year-old faces an extended spell on the sidelines, meaning recalling him to the Stade Louis II Stadium is not in their plans.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said in an interview on the club's DailyMotion page: "Falcao is currently injured. He has six to eight weeks to go like that.

"We have decided not to take him back to Monaco for the moment."

Halfway through a season-long loan with Chelsea, the former Atletico Madrid striker has scored just one goal and also struggled for form during a similar spell at Manchester United last season.

With Diego Costa and Loic Remy ahead of him in the Chelsea pecking order, even a fit Falcao would appear unlikely to get much playing time with the Blues for the rest of the season.

His contract expires in 2018 after Monaco signed the striker from Atletico in 2013 for £52m.

He has spent just one season in Ligue 1, however, after he suffered a major knee injury midway through before embarking on a frustrating loan spell at Old Trafford.

Injury prevents Chelsea striker returning to Monaco
Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has admitted the Ligue 1 club explored the possibility of cutting short Radamel Falcao's loan at Chelsea, only for injury to end that prospect.

The Colombia striker joined Chelsea last summer after an unsuccessful loan stint at Manchester United.

But his spell at Stamford Bridge has been equally underwhelming, with just one goal and no appearances since October due to a thigh injury.

A return date for Falcao is not known and Vasilyev revealed the former Porto and Atletico Madrid striker did return to Monaco last week to be assessed with a view to returning to his parent club.

Vasilyev told RMC Sport: "It's true that we've talked about Falcao on numerous occasions.

"The original idea was that he would return to Monaco to play the second half of the season. He came over and had a medical. Unfortunately, he was injured.

"So we took the decision that it would be better for him to stay with Chelsea. Could he return one day? I won't close the door, that door remains open."

The news strengthens reports that Chelsea are looking for a striker during this month's transfer window, with Leicester's Jamie Vardy among those linked.
