PSG's Yohan Cabaye open to rendezvous with Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace



Midfielder Yohan Cabaye is eyeing a move away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer and says he would be happy to link up with former boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace.

The 29-year-old France international, who featured in their 4-3 defeat by Belgium on Sunday, has struggled to hold down a first-team place at the Ligue 1 champions.

He made just 13 league starts last term and has just 22 to his name overall since joining from Newcastle, where he first worked with Pardew for three years, in January 2014.  

Speaking whilst on current international duty, Cabaye told a French newspaper: “It went very well with him [last time].

"If I have to make that decision, it will be a pleasure to see my old coach. I enjoy it with him and he does a great job.

"I am in a situation today where I am not getting the game time that I was hoping for. The important thing is that I will think carefully and make the best decision. We will see how it evolves in the coming weeks.”

According to reports, Crystal Palace hold an interest in Cabaye along with several other Premier League clubs including Arsenal.

Cabaye began his career at Lille before a £4.4million switch to Newcastle in 2011. Newcastle then sold him for £19million 18 months ago.

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has confirmed the club are interested in signing PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Speaking to Sunday Supplement presenter Neil Ashton on talkSPORT yesterday, the Palace chief said of the former Newcastle man: "That’s definitely one we would like to do. It would be a massive thing for the club obviously.

"He’s a seasoned international, so it’s definitely one we are working on."

Yohan Cabaye: Crystal Palace agree £10m deal for PSG player

Crystal Palace are close to completing the club-record signing of Paris St-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Palace and the Ligue 1 champions have agreed a fee in the region of £10m, rising to around £13m with add-ons.

There is also an agreement in principle over personal terms and the France midfielder is expected to undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.

Cabaye, 29, joined PSG from Newcastle for £19m in January 2014, but started just 13 games last season.

Should he join Alan Pardew's Palace side, he would become the most expensive signing in the club's history, surpassing the £7m they paid Wigan for James McArthur last summer.

Pardew signed Cabaye from Lille in 2011 during his time as Newcastle boss. The midfielder was popular with fans on Tyneside, scoring 18 goals in 93 outings.

But midfield options including Thiago Motta, Javier Pastore, Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi have seen him used largely as a substitute at PSG, scoring three goals in 53 appearances.

Betting suspended on Yohan Cabaye to Crystal Palace

Sky Bet have suspended betting on Yohan Cabaye joining Crystal Palace following a number of large bets at short odds.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has been the subject of media reports linking him with a permanent transfer to the Eagles, thought to be in the region of £10m.

Cabaye, who played 79 times for Newcastle, was heavily backed to join the south London club at as short as 1/10 on Wednesday morning, which prompted the bookmaker to suspend betting.

The 29-year-old, who started just 21 Ligue 1 games in the two seasons he spent in France, has spoken of his intent to leave PSG and return to the Premier League to improve his chances of featuring at Euro 2016.

Sky Bet's Simon Thompson said: "After offering odds of 12/1 in April that Cabaye would sign for Crystal Palace in the current transfer window, the odds have gradually tumbled.

"He has been odds-on to reunite with Alan Pardew since June and, after a number of large bets, we have now been forced to suspend betting."

Crystal Palace have agreed a fee and personal terms for the transfer of Yohan Cabaye, according to Sky sources.

The France midfielder spent two-and-a-half years with Newcastle before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain in January 2014.

A completed move to Palace would reunite him with Alan Pardew, his old manager at St James' Park.

Sky Bet suspended betting on the transfer on Wednesday after taking a number of bets at short odds, and Sky sources say a fee of £10m - rising to £13m - has been agreed.

Cabaye has struggled for regular football in Paris, starting just 21 Ligue 1 games since his arrival.
