Manchester United medical staff are expected to assess Phil Jones on Tuesday in order to discover the extent of the injury he suffered while on England duty.

The 22-year-old defender limped off in the 77th minute of England’s 2-0 European Qualifiers win over Switzerland on Monday with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

The Football Association has provided no information regarding the injury.

Manchester United’s next game is against QPR at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manager Louis van Gaal could hand debuts to a number of players as he goes in search of his first win as United boss.

Jones’ fellow England defender Luke Shaw is understood to be ready for selection following a hamstring injury.

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey twists ankle in Wales' Andorra win

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey injured his ankle in Wales' 2-1 Euro 2016 qualification win in Andorra.
Ramsey, 23, picked up the injury in the Estadio Nacional after twisting on the controversial artificial pitch.
"He got a kick and there was a twist in his ankle," said Wales boss Chris Coleman.
"Hopefully he'll be OK for Arsenal (at home to Manchester City) at the weekend but we'll have to see what the next 24 to 48 hours hold."

Ramsey upbeat on injury

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey hopes he never plays on an artificial surface again as he battles to be fit for Manchester City's visit to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Ramsey rolled an ankle in the closing stages of Wales' Euro 2016 victory in Andorra on Tuesday night

and should know in the next 24 hours whether he is fit enough to line up against the reigning Barclays Premier League champions.

"I hope that's the last time I play on a plastic pitch," said Ramsey. "The pitch was very hard, there was no give in it, and I rolled my ankle a little bit.

"I could feel it, but hopefully it will be nothing and I'll be available for Saturday.

"Manchester City at home, those are the games you want to play in so hopefully it won't be a problem."

If Ramsey is passed fit he will line-up for the first time with Danny Welbeck, Arsenal's £16m deadline-day signing from Manchester United.
